2022 Honda City e:HEV Production Commenced: Launch Soon
Honda has commenced the production of the hybrid version of the fifth-generation Honda City in India. According to Honda Cars India, the production of the Honda City e:HEV takes place at the Japanese automaker's manufacturing plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan.
At present, the upcoming Honda City e:HEV doesn't have any rivals and Honda couldn't have timed the launch any better as fuel prices are higher than ever and people are in the market for a hybrid sedan that can deliver great fuel economy.
Mr Takuya Tsumura, President and CEO, Honda Cars India Limited said, "It's a delight to share that we are commencing the production of the City e:HEV from our Tapukara facility in the state of Rajasthan. The milestone also marks our commitment to bring advanced technologies for Indian customers and the beginning of our electrification journey in India. As a company, we have always been aligned with the Government of India's vision of Make in India as well as bringing environmentally friendly technologies."
Earlier, Honda had released an 8-second teaser video that showed the 'e: HEV' badging on the upcoming mid-size hybrid sedan and the teaser video also revealed the variant and the presence of a lip spoiler in the model.
Speaking about the upcoming hybrid version of the Honda City, the Honda City e:HEV is already on sale in a few Asian markets and is positioned above the standard model.
To attract Indian audiences, expect the India-spec Honda City e: HEV to come with revised styling with a hefty dose of chrome and a few additional standard features compared to its other Asian counterparts.
Speaking about the features, the upcoming Honda City e:HEV will be loaded with features such as Honda Sensing technology that comes with a whole list of active safety features such as auto high beam assist, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, emergency braking, lane departure warning, and front collision warning system.
The Honda City e: HEV is powered by a proper hybrid powertrain equipped with a powerful electric motor driving the front axles and a simpler ISG (Integrated Starter Generator). This powertrain also consists of a 1.5-litre petrol Atkinson-cycle engine.
This Atkinson cycle internal combustion engine is great for better fuel efficiency and produces a respectable 98bhp of peak power and 127Nm of peak torque. Though these figures are a step below the standard model, thanks to the hybrid powertrain, the electric motors alone produce 109bhp and 253Nm of torque.
Moreover, the upcoming Honda City e: HEV can be driven in three modes - EV mode, internal combustion mode, and a hybrid mode. When launched, the Honda City e: HEV could be priced anywhere between Rs 18 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, ex-showroom.
Thoughts About Honda City e: HEV
As Honda commences the production of Honda City e:HEV in India, the Japanese automaker will soon launch the model in the country and this move is likely to boost the sales and the image of the brand in the country.
