Vazirani Automotive Reveals Radical Ekonk Electric Hypercar Concept
Mumbai-based Vazirani Automotive has revealed its second EV concept car, the Ekonk. The Ekonk electric hypercar takes its name from ancient Indian scriptures signifies the beginning of the divine light.
Speaking about the new Ekonk, Vazirani Automotive founder Chunky Vazirani said, "For us, Ekonk signifies our real beginning, where for the first time design and innovation comes together. It's our first vehicle that's alive."
The figures are where the Ekonk really stands out. While the details about the battery pack and motors have not been revealed, their output is startling, to say the least. Vazirani claims that Ekonk's electric drivetrain produces 712bhp and that the hypercar weighs in at just 738 kilogrammes. The reason for the low weight is a carbon fibre body along with a few other innovations.
This gives it a power to weight ratio of 964.76bhp/tonne, which is extremely close to the golden 1:1 ratio, a figure most supercars and hypercars can only dream of. Vazirani claims that when tested at the newly inaugurated NATRAX test track in Indore, the Ekonk blitzed its way to 100km/h from standstill in just 2.54 seconds and continued pushing till it topped out at an admirable 309km/h.
The Vazirani Ekonk features a radical single-seater design with sharp lines and elegant curves combining together to create a car that will keep supercar hunters snapping away at their cameras.
The front features a single light bar running across it which acts as the hypercar's headlights. The sides see the flared up wheel arches upfront which glides to the back of the car to the covered-up rear wheels. The alloy wheels themselves are a work of art, however, the rear set is kept covered up for better aero.
Also seen from the sides is the air intake for the innovative battery cooling system and the single-seater setup with the Sparco seat.
The rear end is where the design really goes bonkers with the multi-layered taillights really leaving a lasting impression on the viewer as the hypercar whizzes by.
While Vazirani hasn't given any details about the battery pack or the motors powering the Ekonk, the cooling system employed in the car is not what you would call normal. While every other electric car uses liquid cooling to keep the temperatures down, the Vazirani Ekonk uses an air-cooled setup the company has dubbed DiCo.
Vazirani hasn't given out details about the DiCo system but claims it combines Biomimicry (studying how animals and humans use breathing to regulate their body temperature) combined with some ancient Indian manufacturing techniques to help cool the battery pack. Vazirani Automotive Claims that the new DiCo tech helps make EVs lighter, faster, safer, and cost-effective while also increasing the range of the EVs.
Vazirani Automotive hasn't given any details about the production status of the Ekonk but some of its tech is expected to make its way into the Shul range-extender EV supercar, which is expected to make it into production soon.
Thoughts on the Vazirani Ekonk Hypercar
The Vazirani Ekonk hypercar is a demonstration of how quickly the EV space is evolving in India. While the power and speed are good conversation starters, the DiCo tech is something we wish to know more about as it could be a real game-changer.
