Tata Xpres-T EV launched In India At Rs 9.54 Lakh: Available In 16.5kWh & 21.5kWh Battery Packs
Tata Xpres-T EV launched in India and priced at Rs 9.54 lakh for the base variant. 'Xpres' is the recently introduced electric sub-brand of the Indian automotive giant, Tata Motors.
Tata Motors introduced the electric-only Xpres sub-brand for fleet operators and the first EV from Xpres is the Tata Tigor based Xpres-T EV.
Unlike the recently updated 2021 Tata Tigor EV, the Xpres-T EV will be only sold for commercial purposes and cannot be registered as a private vehicle.
With a 26kWh battery pack, the Xpres-T EV comes with two choices for the battery pack, both of which are 37 and 17 per cent smaller in capacity at 16.5kWh and 21.5kWh respectively.
Another difference between the 2021 Tata Tigor EV and Xpres-T EV comes in the powertrain. While Tata Motors has opted to utilise the much more advanced 350V Ziptron EV system, the Xpres-T-EV continues to use the 72V electrical architecture.
This difference further trickles down to the electric motor, where the Xpres-T EV uses a 70V, 3-Phase induction motor with 39.4 bhp and 105Nm of peak torque as opposed to the 2021 Tata Tigor EV's 74 bhp and 170Nm electric motor.
This difference in powertrain and battery capacity has affected the charging time as well as the range of the Xpres-T EV. While the Tigor EV can charge from 0-80 per cent in just 65 minutes using DC fast chargers, the same feat takes 90 for the 16.5kWh Xpres-T EV and 110 minutes for the 21.5kWh Xpres-T EV.
For the range, the Xpres-T EV can do 165kms when equipped with a 16.5kWh battery pack, whereas the larger 21.5kWh battery pack can extend the claimed range to 213kms. Though this is somewhat lower compared to the 2021 Tata Tigor EV's ARAI-certified 306kms, it more than meets the requirements of fleet operators.
Design-wise, the Xpres-T EV carries a near-identical silhouette to the 2021 Tata Tigor EV. However, there are subtle changes everywhere to keep the cost down.
Starting with the front-end, the Xpres-T EV gets a pair of simple single-pod reflector type headlight units, a gloss-black grille devoid of any graphics and a front bumper with minor changes compared to the 2021 Tata Tigor EV.
Moving on to the sides, the lack of body-coloured door handles and ORVMs clearly state that Xpres-T EV is built for fleet operations in mind, and this cost-cutting further extends to the rear portion with more conventional-looking tail lamps and a slightly different rear bumper.

Safety features on Xpres-T EV include two airbags, ABS with EBD and a few more. The top-of-the-line Xpres-T EV with 21.5kWh battery and XZ+ trim level costs 10.64 lakh (ex-showroom).
Thoughts About Tata Xpres-T EV
Tata Xpres-T EV is priced from Rs 9.54 lakhs and at this price point, the vehicle not only delivers the cheap running cost but the price tag itself is affordable.
On paper, the Xpres-T EV may seem like a step-down from the 2021 Tata Tigor EV, but it t more than meets the requirements of fleet operators in India.
