Tata Punch Vs Tata Nexon; Did Tata Accidentally Kill The Nexon?
Tata Motors recently launched its all-new sub-4m SUV, the Tata Punch and many have been wondering, which sub-4m Tata SUV to buy. Moreover, the company has a lot of expectations on the micro-SUV in India.
With a starting price of just Rs 5.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India), the new Tata Punch offers everything you want from a sub-4m SUV and makes a strong statement for itself.
To make it easier, we shall be comparing the two sub-4m SUVs from Tata Motors in five different categories.
1. Design
Despite both the Tata Punch and Tata Nexon being SUVs, they couldn't look more different. While the new Tata Punch looks squared and butch like a bodybuilder in his prime, the Tata Nexon on the other hand looks like a bigger bodybuilder who is enjoying his retirement.
Starting with the newest car here, the Tata Punch is the SUV that will attract the most eyeballs. Thanks to the design of the Tata Punch's more rugged looks.
On the other hand, the Tata Nexon looks very neat and urban-friendly. Moreover, the Tata Nexon design looks far more premium compared to the rugged-looking Tata Punch.
2. Features & Convenience
Both the vehicles come with very similar equipment levels such as projector headlamps, auto headlights, rain-sensing wipers, cooled glove box, climate control, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver display, and many more.
However, Tata Nexon manages to either make it a bit 'extra' by offering features such as a bigger cooled glovebox, rear AC vents, more premium 8-speaker audio, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Traction Control (TC), Drive modes and many more
However, Tata Punch being the newer vehicle gets a very handy feature called 'Traction Pro' that urges the driver to activate the Traction Pro system when stuck in a low ration situation.
3. Space
Measuring at 399x1811x1523mm (LxWxH), the Tata Nexon is 166mm longer, 56mm wider and 83mm taller than the Tata Punch. This means that the Tata Nexon is a size larger than the Tata Punch.
Being a bigger SUV, Tata Nexon is also offering a larger 412-litre boot(366-litre boot in the Tata Punch).
4. Powertrain
Speaking about the powertrain, the sole engine available in the Tata Punch is the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated Revotron petrol engine. This engine makes 84.48 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 3,300 rpm.
This engine is either mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).
The Tata Nexon on the other hand comes with two different engine options. These engine options include one petrol and one diesel engine.
Staring with the petrol-powered engines, the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 118 bhp and 170 Nm of torque.
Whereas the diesel unit is a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder unit with 108 bhp and 260 Nm of torque. Apart from that, the Tata Nexon can be specified with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed AMT gearbox.
5. Price
Prices for the Tata Nexon start from Rs 7.28 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base 1.2-litre turbocharged model, whereas the top-of-the-line Tata Nexon XZA+ (O) Dark variant with AMT gearbox model is priced at Rs 13.23 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Whereas the new Tata Punch range starts from Rs 5.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base variant, Whereas the top-end Creative variant with iRA pack costs Rs 9.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Thoughts About Tata Punch & Tata Nexon
Though both SUVs may seem like just a sub-4m offering from Tata Motors and the Tata Nexon may suddenly feel like Rs 1.79 lakh extra, in reality, the Tata Nexon offers a lot more space, and standard features than the Tata Punch and the price gap can be well justified.
