Tata Punch Receives 5-Star Rating In Global-NCAP Crash Test
Tata Punch has been recently awarded a 5-Star crash rating by Global-NCAP. This makes the Tata Punch the safest micro-SUV in India.
Apart from that, the 5-Star Global-NCAP rating means that the new Tata Punch is just as safe as the bigger Tata Nexon.
However, the 5-Star safety rating is expected as Tata Motors not only makes one of the safest cars in India, but the new Tata Punch uses the same ALFA-ARC (Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture) platform that underpins the Tata Altroz, which also received a 5-Star crash rating.
Commenting on this milestone, Mr Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicles Business, Tata Motors, said, "SUVs are the ideal solution for Indian customers as they offer a perfect balance of performance, comfort and durability suited for Indian roads. When we were developing the Punch, we were very clear that despite its compact size, we wanted to offer customers a holistic package.
The Punch reinforces the four core pillars that define all Tata SUVs- Stunning Design, Versatile and Engaging Performance, Roomy and Spacious Interiors, and Absolute Safety. We are proud to have delivered yet another product that will be regarded as the safest passenger vehicle on Indian roads. This landmark achievement by Tata Motors is also a testament of the fact that the automotive industry in India is capable of delivering the highest global standards of safety in vehicles."
"We are delighted to offer yet another 5-star rated car from our stable - The Tata Punch. It is an Industry first achievement in the sub-compact SUV segment and a testimony to Tata Motors continued commitment and leadership on product safety. This achievement is in line with our philosophy that vehicle safety should be made accessible to all. Getting the GNCAP 5-star for vehicle program comes as an outcome of the relentless hard work put in by cross-functional teams across the organization, including our supplier partners.
Together they have delivered yet another excellent package consisting of an outstanding structural integrity while deploying "digital first" strategy. The Company has dedicated itself to the mission of 'Safe Bharat' by developing innovative and safe mobility solutions and is committed to the mobility transformation through Connected, Electrified, Shared & Safe (CESS) approach." said Mr Rajendra Petkar, President & Chief Technology Officer, Tata Motors.
The Tata Punch was recently unveiled and the company has already opened bookings for the micro-SUV. According to the manufacturer, the booking amount for Tata Punch is set at Rs 21,000.
Speaking about Tata Punch, the exterior design of the micro-SUV stays very true to the original Tata HBX concept car. However, Tata Motors has introduced a few changes to the exterior to make the Tata Punch more practical and road legal.
Some of these changes include more practical front and rear bumpers, a set of road-biased tyres instead of knobby off-road tyres, a different set of alloy wheels, and a few more.
Overall, the new Tata Punch looks like a small SUV with its squared-off wheel arches, all-around black cladding, upright nose and a flat bonnet.
Apart from that, the new Tata Punch looks contemporary with its split headlamps and tri-arrow LED taillamps.
The new Tata Punch is also quite rugged thanks to the 187mm ground clearance and 370mm water wading capability.
Moving inside, the interior design also reflects the personality of the vehicle with a good blend of sophistication and ruggedness. While the large black squared-off AC vents with chunky surrounds add to the rugged appeal, the large 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system adds to the sophistication.
Apart from that, the dual-tone dashboard looks simple. Moreover, the lighter tone on the dashboard divides the dashboard into three horizontal sections that accentuate the width of the already wide cabin as Tata Motors claims that the Tata Punch offers best-in-class hip room and shoulder room.
Speaking of space, the new Tata Punch also offers a generous boot space with a boot capacity of 366-litres. This makes Tata Punch's boot slightly bigger than Tata Altroz's boot.
Despite the small dimensions, Tata Motors have loaded the new Tata Punch with many features such as a semi-digital instrument console, a large 7-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto,
iRA connected car tech, multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, natural voice recognition function for voice commands, smart keyless entry, push-button start/stop, power-operated ORVMs with auto-folding, cruise control and many more.
Apart from sharing the ALFA-ARC platform from the Tata Altroz, the new Tata Punch comes with safety features such as dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and cornering stability control, ISOFIX child seats, first-in-segment 'Brake Sway Control', and many more.
Along with that, the new Tata Punch also comes with 'Terrainpro' technology that urges the driver to activate the system when the car detects traction loss. Once the system is activated by the driver, the system will lay a set of instructions on the infotainment screen to guide the driver out of the situation.
Powering the new Tata Punch is a 1.2L Revotron petrol engine with 'Dynapro Technology', which is essentially a ram air intake system, which as per Tata Motors improves the combustion efficiency and provides better low-end torque.
This engine produces 84.48 bhp and 113 Nm of torque and comes with a choice of either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
According to Tata Motors, the AMT gearbox in the Tata Punch is augmented with an altitude adjusted mapping for better drivability, and Tata Motors claims that the Tata Punch can do 0-60 kmph and 0-100kmph sprint in 6.5 seconds and 16.5 seconds, respectively.
Thoughts About Tata Punch Receiving 5-Star Crash Rating From Global-NCAP
The Tata Punch has everything in its stride to become a successful product in India and the recently acquired 5-Star crash rating from the Global-NCAP solidifies the buying decision for many customers in India.
All Tata Motors has to do now is price the new Tata Punch competitively for it to become successful in the highly competitive and price-sensitive Indian automobile market.
