Even though the upcoming Tata Punch is an SUV under 4-metres in length, it is positioned below the Tata Nexon as a ‘Micro-SUV'. Tata Punch will also be the first SUV from Tata Motors to be built on the ALFA-ARC (Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture) platform.

One of the reasons for the enormous popularity of the Tata Punch owes to its design as the overall design stays very true to the HBX Concept. This gives the Tata Punch a bold SUV stance despite its small dimensions.

Apart from this, the Tata Punch looks more like a shrunken Tata Harrier rather than a hatchback with raised suspension. However, Tata Motors has toned down the aggression from the original HBX Concept but the overall design and silhouette still remain the same for a bold SUV-ish stance.

Despite being front-wheel-drive, we expect Tata Motors to come with features such as Drive Modes and Terrain Response modes as a feature on higher-end variants to justify the SUV-ish stance.

Even though this feature will not make the Tata Punch a mountain goat, it will help the micro-SUV further into broken patches and rough terrains with ease. Along with this, we also expect Tata Motors to add few additional features such as hill start assist and hill descent control to aid the driver in tricky conditions.

Though the exterior package will attract any Indian consumer, the interiors like many Tata vehicles will be packed with a lot of features. We expect Tata Motors to come loaded with a semi-digital instrument console, a large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, iRA connected car tech, a flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, smart keyless entry, push-button start/stop, power-operated ORVMs with auto-folding, cruise control and many more.

In terms of safety, we already know Tata Motors is currently offering one of the safest vehicles in its respective segments. We expect Tata Motors to blow away the competition in this department with safety features such as dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seats and a few more to keep its passengers safe.

Tata Punch is more likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine with 86PS and 113Nm of torque. However, the punchier 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 110PS and 140Nm of torque is more likely to be offered in a higher trim level at least as an option.

Apart from this, Tata Punch is most likely to be offered with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard, however, an AMT gearbox will be offered at least as an option.

When launched, Tata Punch will directly compete with Maruti Suzuki Ignis and take on many other hatchbacks too.

Thoughts About The Tata Punch

Tata Punch already looks much better than its competitors. If Tata Motors could launch the new Tata Punch with an aggressive price tag, it will definitely attract even more crowds to the showrooms.
