Tata Nexon & Altroz Voice Assistant To Support Indian Languages: Here Are The Details

The Tata Nexon and the Altroz will be receiving updates to the voice assistant system. The brand's onboard voice assistant 'Ava' already supports certain commands of Hinglish vernacular, which is Hindi + English combined.

However, a Kolkata-based start-up, Mihup Communication and Harman International is working on adding more commands to the existing vernacular. The partnership also aims to add more native-speaking languages.

This includes Tamilish (Tamil + English) and Benglish (Bengal + English) voice commands to the touchscreen infotainment system. Called the 'AVA Auto', is a new technology which is the result of the partnership between both brands.

The on-broad voice assistant AVA is currently available offline and voice commands are inbuilt. However, the AVA Auto will be available online, offline, and hybrid connectivity options among other features.

The AVA Auto can be activated just by speaking to the infotainment system. It will not require any manual activation with the help of a button. Apart from the above-mentioned languages, the partnership aims to introduce all other major Indian languages by 2022.

According to Mihpu, the voice assistant will become extremely popular in the coming years. Around 8 billion voice assistants are estimated to be commissioned by the year 2023. 95 per cent of motorists are predicted to use in-vehicle voice assistant by the year 2022.

The company also stated that the in-vehicle voice assistant is used over 60 per cent as compared to the smart speakers' voice assistant every month. However, the current in-vehicle setup is not easy to use, especially for Indian languages.

The current pre-loaded AVA voice assistant on the Tata Nexon and the Tata Altroz allows user to control only certain functions of the vehicle. This includes AC, volume, AM/FM and Music System among others.

The AVA also provides native language support for making phone calls and playing music from USB, supporting navigation commands and also for vehicle information. However, these commands are very limited and there is a need for an advanced voice assistant.
