Skoda Slavia Vs Honda City Vs Maruti Ciaz Vs Hyundai Verna — Engine Specs & Dimensions Compared

Skoda is all set to launch the new Slavia sedan on 18th November. The Czech carmaker has revealed a few details about the all-new Slavia including the engine options and dimensions.

So how does the Slavia stack up against its rivals like the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna when it comes to size and engine specs? Let's find out

Dimensions

Lengthwise, the Skoda Slavia is the second longest of the cars compared here at 4,541mm long, which is just 8mm smaller than the Honda City with its length of 4,549mm. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz comes in third at 4,490mm while the Hyundai Verna is the smallest at 4,440mm.

Widthwise, the Slavia is the broadest of the lot at 1,752mm wide. This means there should be more space inside for passengers, especially for those in the back seat. The Honda City is just 3mm narrower at 1,749mm while the Ciaz and Verna bring up the rear at 1,730mm and 1,729mm respectively.

In terms of height, it is a close race once again between the City and the Slavia. The Honda edges out the Skoda at 1,489mm by just 2mm, with the Czech sedan measuring in at 1,487mm. The Ciaz is another 2mm lower at 1,485mm. The Verna has the lowest height of the lot at 1,475mm.

The wheelbase of the 4 sedans is where the real fight happens. The wheelbase determines how roomy a car can be on the inside and in this parameter, the Skoda Slavia edges out the Maruti Ciaz by just 1mm with a wheelbase of 2,651mm. The wheelbase of the Ciaz is 2,650mm long while the City and Verna both sport identical wheelbase lengths of 2,600mm.

Engine & Gearbox Options

Out of the four cars being compared here, the Slavia, the City and the Verna are offered with multiple engine options. The Verna and the City are the only offerings in this segment that still ply with a diesel powerplant.

The all-new Skoda Slavia draws power from two engine options - the first is a three-cylinder 1.0-litre turbo petrol while the second is the VW Group's tried and tested 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine.

The Slavia's 1.0-litre petrol engine produces 114bhp and 175Nm of torque while the 1.5-litre powerplant cranks out 148bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both engines share a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0-litre Slavia sports a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox while the 1.5-litre unit gets a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.

The Hyundai Verna is offered with two petrol and one diesel engine. The diesel engine is a 1.5-litre unit that churns out 113bhp and 250Nm of torque while offering a mileage of 21.3km/l (ARAI).

The two petrol offerings for the Verna displace 1.0 and 1.5-litres respectively. The 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 113bhp and 144Nm of torque and has an ARAI certified mileage of 17.7km/l. The smaller turbocharged 1.0-litre engine cranks out 118bhp and 172Nm of torque while delivering a mileage (as per ARAI) of 19.2km/l. Both the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines are offered with 6-speed manual gearboxes while the 1.0-litre engine is paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The Honda City is offered with 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. The Honda City's petrol is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox and produces 119bhp and 145Nm of torque. The mileage figures for the Honda City petrol are 17.8km/l(manual) and 18.4km/l(CVT). The City's diesel powerplant is only offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and produces 98bhp and 200Nm of torque while delivering an ARAI-certified mileage of 24.1km/l.

The Maruti Ciaz is only offered with a solitary 1.5-litre petrol engine option that produces 103bhp and 138Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The manual Ciaz delivers a mileage of 20.65km/l while the automatic is slightly less frugal at 20.04km/l.
