Skoda Karoq Removed From The Website In India: Expected To Re-Launch Soon!

Skoda has removed the Karoq SUV from its Indian website. The company imported 1,000 units of the Skoda Karoq at the time of its launch in the country. The Karoq received an overwhelming response from the Indian market. The first batch of SUVs getting sold out within months after its launch.

However, according to recent media reports, the company is expected to re-launch the Karoq SUV in the market sometime later this year. Skoda could be shipping the next lot of the Karoq SUV via the (CKD) Completely Knocked Down route.

At the time of its initial launch, Zac Hollins, Director for Sales, Service & Marketing confirmed that if the Karoq receives a good response from the market, the company would look at locally assembling the SUV in India.

Skoda India brought in the first batch of the Karoq SUV as a (CBU) Completely Built-Up unit. However, if the SUV is re-launched via the CKD route, it could become significantly lesser in pricing.

Skoda has taken advantage of the new import rules in the country, which now dictates that companies can import 2,500 vehicles via the CKD and CBU channels per year, without the need for homologation. However, all imported vehicles have to meet International Automotive Standards.

The Karoq retailed at Rs 24.99 lakh, ex-showroom (India). It was in a single trim with a single engine and transmission option. It was offered in six different colour options: Candy White, Magic Black, Magnetic Brown, Lava Blue, Brilliant Silver and Quartz Grey.

Speaking about the engine and transmission, The Karoq was powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI petrol engine producing 150bhp and a peak torque of 250Nm. The engine came mated to a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission.

The Karoq used the brand's MQB platform that also underpins many other models such as the Octavia, Kodiaq and the Volkswagen T-Roc. Some of the highlighted features of the Karoq include LED headlamps, electrically adjustable driver's seat, all leather upholstery, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with SmartLink connectivity, and dual-zone climate control; among others.

The Skoda Karoq has been a popular SUV for the brand. The company is unlikely to discontinue it permanently in the Indian market. The SUV could be launched as a locally assembled unit. However, Skoda is to confirm its plans for the Karoq SUV in the Indian market.
