Where the Kwid really stands out is its touchscreen infotainment display. The Kwid was the first car in the segment with this feature and the facelifted version that arrived in 2019 sported a larger 8.0-inch unit with support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

However, one area where the Kwid and other cars in this segment really fall behind is in terms of safety. The Renault Kwid only offers airbags for the driver and front passenger and sports anti-lock brakes with EBD along with child safety locks as standard on the top-spec car.

The lack of safety features hasn't resulted in the best of results when the car has been tested by safety testers across the globe. The Kwid was tested by Global NCAP in 2016 and received an ignominious 0-star rating along with most of the other cars in the segment. A test by Latin NCAP of the Brazilian version of the Kwid saw the little hatchback manage a 3-star rating. However, we should note that this car had additional side airbags as part of the standard kit, something the current Indian car is still missing.

Thoughts On the Renault Kwid Hitting the 4 Lakh Mark

The Renault Kwid hitting the 4 lakh sales mark is a matter of pride for the French marque which dared to challenge the might of Maruti Suzuki. However, we still wish that Renault would upgrade the safety features of this car to make it a whole lot safer for first-time car buyers.
