Next-Gen Mahindra XUV500 (2021) Launch Delayed Again: New Timeline Revealed!

The next-generation Mahindra XUV500 is the most anticipated SUV launching in the Indian market. The new SUV was expected to arrive last year or early this year. However, due to various reasons, the launch timeline was moved to July this year.

Now, a recent report from TeamBHP reveals that the launch of the next-generation Mahindra XUV500 has been delayed yet again. The report suggests that the SUV could go on sale sometime in September this year.

The deliveries of the SUV is said to begin starting in November this year. Mahindra is yet to make an official statement on the launch of the 2021 XUV500. Ahead of its launch, the upcoming SUV has been spotted several times revealing many interior and exterior details.

The exterior design of the 2021 XUV500 will retain its Cheetah-inspired silhouette the gives the SUV an aggressive stance. However, the bonnet of the SUV is expected to undergo slight design revision and is expected to feature a more bold design to enhance the SUV's front-end look.

The headlamps and the taillamps including the front grille are expected to undergo design revision as well. Also, the new-generation SUV could feature a larger footprint as compared to the outgoing model. This could allow for more space inside.

Moving to the interiors, the new XUV500 is expected to feature new horizontally stacked displays that are reserved for touchscreen infotainment display and the instrument cluster. It will also feature a new multi-function flat-bottom steering wheel with mounted controls.

The centre console will house a redesigned climate control unit. The new system features a more traditional design of having two dials on either side with a host of buttons in the middle.

Other features on the centre console include a rotatory dial, electronic parking brake and one next to it could be an engine start/stop button with a flag symbol on it. The rotary dial is speculated to be a driving mode selector, however, the symbol on it represents a music icon and a phone icon.

This could be that the dial could be a second physical interface to the touchscreen infotainment display. The upcoming SUV is also expected to be offered with a Level 1 Autonomous technology with (ADAS) Advanced Driver Assisted System.

Speaking about the powertrain, the reports suggest that the 2021 XUV500 will continue to feature its 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. It now produces 152bhp and 360Nm of torque and comes mated to either a six-speed or a six-speed torque-converter automatic.

The 2021 SUV could also be offered with a new turbo-petrol engine. It could be the same 2.0-litre T-GDi mStallion unit that will power the upcoming 2020 Thar, albeit in a different state of tune. The petrol unit on the Thar produces 150bhp and 320Nm of peak torque and is offered with both manual and automatic transmission options.

Thoughts About The Next-Gen Mahindra XUV500 Launch Delayed Again

Mahindra is taking its own sweet time to launch the much-awaited next-gen XUV500 in the Indian market. The new SUV will undergo a complete design and feature revision inside and out. The outgoing XUV500's design feels dated and will be getting the much-needed overhaul via the new-gen model.
