Mitsubishi Ralliart Set To Make A Comeback: Lots Of Sideways Rallying Action Coming Soon
Ralliart is making a comeback! Mitsubishi is all set to revive the ralliart brand after nearly 11 years. Mitsubishi announced the resurrection of the Ralliart brand at a presentation on May 13 2021. The presentation included an image of a Mitsubishi L200 pickup-truck decked in Ralliart livery in full-opposite lock. The brand will also make performance parts for production cars.
To a motorsport enthusiast, the word Ralliart brings back fond memories. Memories of Red-coloured Mitsubishi Evo sedans with Ralli art decals going sideways on rally stages while spinning all four wheels. Memories of it flying over a crest and landing a hundred feet away while the driver didn't let go of the throttle.
Other memories of Ralliart include a Red-coloured Mitsubishi Pajero SWB conquering sand dunes, rocks, snow, slush and everything else thrown at it while it participated in the Dakar Rally. Even mentioning the word Ralliart can push some of us Motorsport enthusiasts to YouTube so we can watch those amazing videos again.
Ralliart was the performance and motorsport division of Mitsubishi. It led the Japanese brand to numerous victories in rallying. Finnish rally driver Tommi Makinen took four consecutive Drivers' Championship titles behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Evo. Mitsubishi won the Dakar Rally 12 times!
In 2010 though, owing to financial difficulties, Mitsubishi mothballed the Ralliart brand. Since then, several private teams have used Ralliart branding on their Mitsubishi cars, but the Japanese brand wasn't involved in motorsport. That is all set to change now.
Alongside reviving the Ralliart brand, Mitsubishi has also announced that it would return to motorsport. However, the brand hasn't been clear about the motorsport series it would be participating in. It has, however, announced that Ralliart will be developing performance parts for Mitsubishi models.
Thoughts On The Return Of Mitsubishi Ralliart & Its Motorsport Teams
We can't wait to see some Red and White Mitsubishi cars going sideways, at full-opposite lock while spinning all four wheels again. None of the good ol' Mitsubishi cars are currently in production, so it remains to be seen which cars the brand picks for Motorsport.
The Mitsubishi L200 is one of the vehicles for sure. Toyota has been winning the Dakar Rally with its Hilux pickup truck and Mitsubishi would love to give Toyota a run for its money at the Dakar. Things are certainly turning out to be interesting indeed.
