Mini has teased the new Cooper SE through two posts on the Mini India Twitter feed. The posts highlight the EV nature of the new arrival, which was revealed to the world at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show. The Mini Electric arrived at the Frankfurt show from Munich under its own power as Mini showed off the electric hatch's range.

The Mini Electric is powered by a rather small 32.6kWh battery connected to a single motor that develops 184bhp and 270Nm of peak torque. Like its internal combustion siblings, the Mini Cooper SE sends its power to the front wheels, thanks to the instant nature of the torque delivery, the sporty electric hatch can go from 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

Despite its small battery pack, MINI claims a range of 233 kilometres on a single charge as per the Worldwide harmonized Light vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) standards. The battery when connected to a 50kW DC charger can be topped up to 80 per cent charge in just 35 minutes. Topping up the battery pack with a regular 11kW charger, on the other hand, takes up to three and half hours.

The Mini Electric is based on the 3-door version of its dinosaur burning siblings. BMW, Mini's Germanic masters have made an effort to differentiate it from its ICE sibling by giving it quite a few highlighter accents. These come in the form of some rather bright yellow highlights on the grille, wheels, mirror caps and the Mini electric badge on the rear end.

While the highlighter yellow may not be to everyone's tastes, it sure does make the electric Mini Cooper SE stand out from its siblings. In this case, more like a punk rocker sitting at an opera.

The inside of the Mini Electric is thankfully more discreet and does look a lot more like a regular mini. There are still quite a few tweaks to give it its own unique look. These include the model specific gear selector on the centre console (again highlighted in yellow) and the fabric options for the seats. Customers can also choose to ugrade the 6.5-inch central display to a larger 8.8-inch unit. Also offered is wireless charging and 5.5-inch colour display that sits behind the steering wheel and acts as the instrument cluster.
