MG Astor Launched In India; Prices Start From Rs 9.78 Lakh
MG Astor launched in India and prices start from Rs 9.78 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV is the Chinese-owned British brand's fifth model for the Indian market and it is available in four trim levels.
The newly launched MG Astor also comes with three years/unlimited kilometres warranty, three years Roadside Assistance and three Labor-Free periodic services, which the company calls a 3-3-3 package.
With the launch of the new MG Astor in India, the brand will be entering into one of the hottest and most competitive segments and will go up against the likes of Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and a few more.
Speaking on the launch, Rajeev Chaba, President and MD, MG Motor India, said, "Astor brings personality, practicality and technology in one compelling expression of future mobility based on established brand heritage.
Enriched with features and packed with technologies never seen before in this segment, we believe that Astor will set a new benchmark in the segment. While the car has been positioned and priced attractively, My MG Shield offers customers complete peace of mind and aligns with our philosophy of creating exciting experiences every time".
Design-wise, the new MG Astor carries a similar silhouette as the all-electric MG ZS EV, however, the front-end looks much more different with sleeker-looking Full LED HawkEye projector headlamps, reprofiled front bumpers and a large hexagonal grille.
Moving onto the rear portion, the most noticeable changes include new taillamps, reprofiled bumpers and the presence of dual faux exhaust pipes.
Moving inside, the MG Astor's interior has a similar layout to the MG ZS EV, but MG has heavily updated it with a dual-tone dashboard, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, AI personal assistant, a new conventional gear selector instead of the rotary-type drive selector and a few more.
Feature-wise, even the base 'Style' variant comes loaded heavily with features such as LED projector headlights, LED DRLs, chrome-tipped tailpipes, chrome window lines, leather layered dashboard, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, shark fin antenna, 3 steering modes, tilt-adjustable steering, keyless entry, power windows, electrically operated ORVMs, follow me home headlamps, rear armrest, 60-40 split rear seat, height-adjustable driver seat, rear AC vents, Air Purifier with PM 2.5 filter and many more.
While the top-end 'Sharp' variant of the MG Astor comes loaded with features such as AI personal assistant, a panoramic sunroof, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), a 360-degree surround-view camera, 6-way power-adjustable driver's seat, electronic parking brake, Blind Spot Monitor, and many more.
The inclusion of ADAS makes the MG Astor the first SUV in its segment to offer a semi-autonomous driving experience, and it includes advanced features like lane keep assist, lane departure warning, collision warning, driver alert, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and a few more.
MG Motor has not skipped any safety features either to cut down the production cost. It still comes with some decent safety features such as 6 airbags, ESC, ABS, Hill Hold Control (HHC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), four-disc brakes, parking sensors, speed-sensing door locks, security alarm, ISOFIX child seats, impact sensing auto door unlock, engine immobilizer, and many more.
The MG Astor will be offered two engine options. The first engine option is a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol unit with 108.5bhp and 144Nm of torque. This engine will either be specced with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a more sophisticated 8-speed CVT gearbox.
The next engine is a turbocharged 1.3-litre petrol engine with 138bhp and 220Nm of torque. However, this engine will be solely mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Thoughts About MG Astor
Like all MGs in India, the new MG Astor is also packed with features. Just a glance at the feature list is enough to make many people head out to the nearest MG showroom to book their MG Astor.
Looks like MG has yet another success story coming their way soon
