The new EQB will be directly pitted against the Audi Q4 E-tron when it goes on sale in the European market. The new EQB is built at Kecskemet, Hungary, alongside its petrol-powered counterpart, the GLB.

It has been confirmed that Mercedes will be launching the top-of-the-range EQB 350 4Matic first, which will be followed by the EQB 300 4Matic and EQB 250 in 2022. From both inside and out, the Mercedes EQB looks largely similar to the Mercedes GLB albeit with few unique touches to differentiate the two.

The unique bits include a completely closed gloss-black grille, new bumpers, LED strips that connect the two headlamps, unique graphics for the digital instrumentation, new upholstery, and rose gold finishing on the aluminium bits surrounding the air-conditioning vents.

The EQB 350 4Matic is powered by two electric motors — one for each axle. The electric motors in question are asynchronous and synchronous motors, mounted over the front and rear axles respectively. Together they produce 288bhp.

The battery pack in the Mercedes-Benz EQB 350 4Matic can be charged at a maximum rate of 100 kW on a DC set-up and 11 kW on an AC set-up. Even though the official figures are not yet out, high placed Mercedes-Benz officials have revealed that the new EQB 350 4matic can launch from 0-100kmph in just 6.0 seconds.

The maximum range is said to be 260 miles, while the average energy consumption is marked at 3.2mpkWh. The EQB 300 4Matic on the other hand utilises a similar set-up to the EQB 350 4Matic but gets 47bhp lesser with the power output rated at 241bhp. The EQB 250 is the least powerful of the lot, using a 188hp electric motor and driving just the front wheels.

Unlike the EQS, the new EQB is not built on a bespoke EV platform, rather it uses a modified platform of the Mercedes-Benz GLB and as a result, the boot space is down by almost 75-litres.

At 495-litres, the boot is still large enough for most buyers but can be expanded to 1710-litres by folding the rear seats.
