Mercedes-Benz Electric Car To Feature 1,000km Range: Plans To Go Completely Electric By 2030
Mercedes-Benz is currently developing the Vision EQXX, an electric car with a real-world range of more than 1,000 kilometres, targeting a single-digit figure for kWh per 100 kilometres (over 6 miles per kWh) at normal highway driving speeds.
The company has announced its plans to become all-electric by 2030. Their elaborate plans include strategies to reduce investment in internal combustion engines and significantly lower the production costs of electric vehicles.
For this, Mercedes-Benz has planned to invest Rs 3.5 lakh crore in EV development by 2030. However, Mercedes-Benz did announce that they were still unclear when their final internal combustion engine will be manufactured.
Along with this, Mercedes-Benz has also committed themselves to build eight new battery factories to support the production requirements of their future EVs. The new battery factories will be scattered around the globe for better logistics.
For a smooth transition, Mercedes-Benz has said that an EV version will be available in all segments from 2022 onwards, and an EV variant will be available across all variants of the brand from 2025 and beyond.
For this, Mercedes-Benz will use 3 different platforms, namely MB.EA, AMG.EA and VAN.EA, and will be used to underpin passenger vehicles, future sports cars from AMG, and light commercial vehicles (LCV), respectively.
As Mercedes-Benz has already launched EQA, EQB, EQS sedan and EQV, Mercedes-Benz is now gearing up for the launch of a new EQE sedan, EQE SUV, EQS SUV. Therefore a total of eight different models of EVs will be available at the Mercedes showroom that will cater for the requirements of different customers.
To further improve the integration of technology, Mercedes-Benz says that their next-generation EVs will have highly standardised batteries. Mercedes-Benz is already in talks with their partners to develop solid-state battery technology better battery tech that is not only more energy-dense but it is also significantly safer.
Mercedes-Benz says that it expects the investments in IC engines to fall by 80-percent by 2026, allowing them to focus more of their resources on EVs. However, Mercedes-Benz is quick to point out that it hasn't drawn the ultimate line on IC engines, as it depends highly on market conditions. This means countries like India will be offered IC engines.
Ola Källenius, CEO of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG, said, "The EV shift is picking up speed - especially in the luxury segment, where Mercedes-Benz belongs. The tipping point is getting closer and we will be ready as markets switch to electric-only by the end of this decade. This step marks a profound reallocation of capital. By managing this faster transformation while safeguarding our profitability targets, we will ensure the enduring success of Mercedes-Benz. Thoughts About Mercedes-Benz's Electrification Plan
This is a bold move from the German brand, especially considering that they are currently the most dominant team in F1 history. However, considering the overall achievement, it is an ideal move from the brand to lead other manufacturers towards electrification.
