Mercedes To Bring The Most Powerful Four-Cylinder Car In The World To India
German luxury carmaker Mercedes is all set to bring its AMG A45 S hyper hot hatch to India this Diwali.
According to a report by Autocar India, the Mercedes-AMG A45 S is expected to arrive on Indian roads during the Diwali period and is expected to cost upwards of Rs 75 lakh, which would also make it the most expensive hatchback sold in the country. The massive price tag is due to the fact that the A45 S is expected to arrive as a CBU import.
But don't let that price tag fool you, under the bonnet of the A45 S hatchback from AMG sits the world's most powerful four-cylinder engine currently in production.
The firecracker four-pot is boosted by a twin-scroll turbocharger that boosts its output to 416bhp at 6750rpm and 500Nm of peak torque from 5000 to 5250rpm.
All this power and torque is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and the Mercedes 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
The big power and torque along with the all-wheel drive system slingshot the Mercedes-AMG A45 S from 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds, which is eight-tenths of a second quicker than the A35. The Mercedes-AMG A45 S has a top speed of 270km/h.
In terms of design, the A45 S looks like an A-Class that has been to the weight room every day. The pumped-up wheel arches play host to wider 19-inch alloy wheels which can be specced with optional Pirelli Trofeo R tyres, for those who really want a track weapon.
The aero kit adds anger to the look. It accentuates the Panamerica grille upfront with canards on the front bumper and a bigger wing at the back that adds downforce while also upping the aggression.
Inside, the A45 S is like every other A-Class, which to be fair, is a real good thing. The twin-screen AMG cockpit features displays for the instrument cluster and the infotainment display layout (with integrated MBUX) grabs your attention as does the turbine-style air vents.
The AMG specific centre console features integral control switches for the manual transmission mode, 3-stage ESP and the AMG ride control suspension setup. The interior comes clad in a host of options including man-made leather and microfibre.
For those looking to better their track driving, the AMG track pace system gives you the ability to monitor your progress on the track. The system allows drivers to check lap, sector and acceleration times plus selected live telemetrics data, allowing them to analyse and improve their driving skills on the race track.
The AMG Ride Control system allows drivers to tweak the suspension setup on their A45 S and choose between Comfort, Sport or Sport+. This can be done with the press of the aforementioned button on the centre console.
For those looking for a bit of fun, the Mercedes-AMG A45 S also features a drift mode, which when activated using the paddle shifters will send you sideways in no time at all.
Thoughts On the Mercedes-AMG A45 S India Launch
The Mercedes-AMG A45 S is a hot hatchback unlike any other. With over 400bhp on tap, this pocket rocket seems like the ideal Diwali purchase for a hot hatch enthusiast with deep pockets.
