Mahindra Marazzo & KUV100 To Be Discontinued In India: No More MPVs From Mahindra?

Mahindra will be revamping its entire product line-up in the coming months starting with the launch of XUV700. The company aims to keep its product line-up with SUVs positioned in various price brackets.

Mahindra also aims to cut off loose ends from its current product line-up. According to the report from Autocar India, the company will phase out the Marazzo MPV and the KUV100 micro SUV in the country. This is being done due to the low sales registered by both products in the past few months.

Looking at the sales numbers for Marzzo from January to April 2021, the MPV has registered only 711 units in four months. On the other hand, its rival, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga managed to register over 37,000 units in the same period.

Coming to the KUV100 NXT, the micro SUV has just sold a mere 21 units in four months. Although not a direct competition, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, which is a similar offering has registered a whopping 16,075 units in sales during the same period.

This has made Mahindra rethink its strategy for both the low selling models in the country. Soon both the Marazzo and the KUV100 will be discontinued. No further updates will be made to both models. Instead, the company will focus on a couple of upcoming models that are scheduled to launch in 2024 including the all-new XUV500 — here are all details.

The Mahindra Marazzo is a potent MPV that offers good space, features and a refined 1.5-litre diesel engine. Earlier, it was speculated to receive a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine to widen the reach of MPV's customer base. However, the company has decided to end the production of Marazzo with no further updates.

The new 1.5-litre BS6-compliant turbo-petrol engine will likely make its debut on the upcoming all-new XUV500 that is scheduled to launch in early 2024. Ahead of its debut, the upcoming engine was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. The 1.5-litre petrol engine is expected to produce 162bhp and 280 Nm of torque.

Speaking about the KUV100, the micro-SUV offered more space than a conventional hatchback available at the price point. In an attempt to offer maximum practicality, the design of the KUV100 received a mixed response, which resulted in low sales numbers in the country.

However, the KUV100 will continue to live on as the company will soon launch an electric version of the micro-SUV. Called the eKUV100, it would be a perfect city car for private buyers and ride-sharing platforms. Its plucky design and decent range would make it an ideal daily driver in the electrification era. Mahindra will launch the eKUV100 sometime next year.

Thoughts About Mahindra Marazzo & KUV100 Getting Discontinued In India

The Mahindra Marazzo is not the first MPV from the brand to bite the dust. Its predecessor, the Mahindra Xylo also met the same fate and was not updated to BS6 standards.

Whether there will be a new MPV in the future introduced by the brand remains to be seen. As for the KUV100, it will live on but with an electrification update that is in tune with the time.
