Mahindra’s Manufacturing Facilities Operating With Reduced Employee Numbers Due To COVID-19

It has been well over a year now since the coronavirus started sweeping across the world. The pandemic affected every single industry in the world economy. The automobile industry is among the worst-hit. Though sales numbers have steadily risen in the last few months, COVID-19 seems to be back to haunt the Indian automotive industry.

In the last few days, the number of cases in India have risen like never before. With more than two lakh cases being reported every single day, state governments are taking every possible precaution. One of the worst-hit states is Maharashtra. Hence, the government has banned all non-essential activities, non-essential public movement, etc.

The government has also implemented stricter protocols for the manufacturing industry. All employees working at factories will be required to follow stringent safety protocols. According to a PTI report, Mahindra has now announced that it has reduced the workforce at all of its production plants in view of the new restrictions.

Rajeshwar Tripathi, the Chief Human Resources Officer for the Automotive and Farm Sectors of Mahindra & Mahindra was quoted as saying, "The well-being and safety of our associates is our biggest priority. In accordance with the 'Break the Chain' guidelines shared by the Maharashtra government, our plants are operational with lower levels of manning and following strict adherence to social distancing, hygiene protocols and safety, including compulsory testing for COVID at the plant and maintaining high standards of safety for our associates."

Mahindra seems to be taking its employees' health very seriously indeed. The brand has partnered with several hospitals across many locations for vaccinations. Rajeshwar Tripathi went on to say that more than 90 percent of Mahindra's workforce including permanent, temporary and contractual employees above the age of 45 have already been vaccinated for COVID-19.

Medical assistance is also available for all Mahindra Employees whenever needed. The brand has also closed all its offices in the state of Maharashtra. Mahindra has four production facilities in Maharashtra - Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and Nashik. All four facilities are running on reduced workforce numbers.

Mahindra has a busy future ahead. The brand recently registered the XUV100, XUV400, XUV700, and XUV900 trademarks and will be looking to launch these SUVs in the near future. With such a busy developmental schedule, the brand cannot afford a full lockdown.

The coronavirus has caused chaos across the world and has affected several sectors pretty badly. Now, it does look like the second wave is following suit. However, this time around, brands like Mahindra are well-prepared to keep going despite the increase in the number of cases.
