Mahindra eKUV100 Leaked Ahead Of India Launch: Could Feature 125km Range

Mahindra will be launching the much-awaited eKUV100 in India sometime early next year. Ahead of its launch, the eKUV100 has been spotted on one of the marketing images of the brand's NEMO management platform for e-mobility.

The eKUV100 made its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo and was launched at Rs 8.75 lakh (starting price, ex-showroom). However, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the arrival of the electric micro-SUV has been delayed.

In May 2021, the company announced that they will be launching a total of 9 SUVs in the next 6 years in India. The eKUV100 could arrive sometime early next year. However, the price tag announced during the expo could seen an increase at the time of launch next year.

Once available, the eKUV100 will be the cheapest SUV sold in the Indian market, taking the title away currently held by the Tata Nexon EV. The company also announced that they will focus sales on fleet operators for the eKUV100. However, the SUV will also be offered to private buyers looking to switch green mobility in the country.

Electric Powertrain, Range & Charging

The Mahindra eKUV100 is powered by a 40kW electric motor paired to a 15.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The eclectic powertrain produces a maximum of 53bhp and a peak torque of 120Nm. The eKUV100 can travel a maximum of 125 kilometres on a single battery charge.

Mahindra will be offering the eKUV100 with both standard and fast-charging options. The charge times of the eKUV100 is yet to be revealed by the company. However, using a DC fast charger the SUV is expected to charge up to 80 per cent within an hour.

In the picture, the range showcased is 110 kilometers with 85% battery charge left. As a result the eKUV100 could feature a maximum driving range of around 125km on a 100% battery charge.

Exterior Styling

The eKUV100 leaked from the images looks similar to the pre-production model showcased at the Auto Expo. At the front, the micro-SUV feature a closed grilled at the top and a partially opened grille at the bottom for cooling.

Other features include updated headlamps, taillights and alloy wheel design as well. The SUV also features several blue accents to indicate the electric powertrain under the bonnet. The overall silhouette of the eKUV100 remains similar its petrol-powered counterpart.

The model from the leaked images sports a dark blue paint scheme and an all-around body cladding for SUV-ish looks. It also features charging slot on both sides of the front fender closed by flaps.

Interiors & Technology

On the Inside, the Mahindra eKUV100 features a similar cabin layout that is seen on the gasoline-powered models. This includes the same dashboard-mounted gear selector, multifunction steering wheel with mounted controls and climate controls.

However, the eKUV100 could feature a larger touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The digital instrument cluster will also be updated to provide more relevant data related to electric vehicle use. This includes the range, battery temperature, electric motor speed and more.

Thoughts About The Mahindra eKUV100 Leaked Ahead Of India Launch

With rising fuel prices in India, the switch to green mobility is increasing at a rapid pace. Currently there are only a handful of electric four-wheeler available for private buyers in the country. As a result, Mahindra is looking to join the EV revolution by launching the eKUV100.
