Magenta & Central Railways Innaugrate EV Chargers At Parel Railway Station
Magenta, the fastest growing Indian charge point operator and Central Railways today inaugurated EV charging stations at the Parel railway station. The charging stations at Parel were inaugurated by Subhash Desai, the Minister of Industry and Mining, Government of India.
The new public charging system at Parel railway station is the first of its kind and features the unique Made in India streetlamp integrated EV charging stations. The charging stations at Parel will in the future also feature DC fast chargers for higher speed charging.
Magenta and Central Railways in the next two weeks will set up new charging stations at Dadar and Byculla railway stations. The AC and DC chargers at these three stations will support the charging of two, three and four-wheeled electric vehicles.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new charging station at Parel railway station, Subhash Desai, Hon. Minister of Industry and Mining said, "We are glad to see Magenta with Central Railways pushing 'green initiatives and setting up EV charging stations addressing the lack of the charging infrastructure for EVs to operate smoothly. This initiative will bring relief to people who can charge their EVs at key locations near Railway stations as well."
Maxson Lewis, MD & co-founder of Magenta Group said, "Installing EV chargers at Mumbai Railway Stations is a dream come true for me at a personal level. The adoption of electric vehicles cannot be said to have taken off if the common man's concern of EV charging is not addressed, and what better than making EV charging available at the most synonymous locations for Mumbai's common man — railway stations."
Dr Kiran C Patel said, "I'm proud to be associated with the Magenta family, to make my vision of an EV ready India possible. This initiative of Street lamp based EV charging station at a railway station is unique, since it's Made in India and Made for India."
The new Magenta charging stations at Parel and the upcoming units at Dadar and Byculla will be available for use 24*7. Customers looking for an EV charger can find them using the ChargeGrid App. The app allows for remote monitoring and also includes an automated payment system eliminating the need of having a station marshal to monitor, maintain & operate the chargers at the location.
The Magenta Group is currently in the process of installing 4,500 electric vehicle charging stations in 108 cities across the country. These include 2950 chargers under the FAME-2 scheme along REIL; more than 1200 chargers at petrol stations such as HPCL and others; 82 at FERN Hotels; residential chargers in collaboration with the Government of Delhi and residential chargers in collaboration with the Bengaluru Apartment Federation. The chargers claim Magenta, will support the government initiative of setting up 400,000 charging stations to meet the requirement for two million Electric Vehicles (EV) that could potentially ply on its roads by 2026.
Thoughts On Magenta & Central Railways Add EV Chargers at Railway Stations
The initiative by the Magenta Group and Central Railways to set up public EV chargers at railway stations in Mumbai is a clever one. With many Mumbaikars using the local train system, the presence of these chargers will hopefully help people get more used to electric vehicles and highlight the many options available to charge them.
