LEVC TX India Launch Soon — Iconic London Cab Set To Hit Indian Streets
British carmaker London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) has announced plans to bring the latest version of the iconic London Cab to India soon. The LEVC TX will be launched in India in partnership with Exclusive Motors. The London Cab will first be made available at a dealership in New Delhi soon.
Speaking about the arrival of LEVC in India, Alan Gemmell, Her Majesty's Trade Commissioner for South Asia said: "I am pleased that LEVC's innovative future mobility solutions is embracing the opportunities in India's dynamic and growing electric vehicle market. The UK and India have ambitious plans to deepen our trade and investment partnership and bring benefits to both economies, and this is a great example of what we can do together."
Satya Bagla, Managing Director, Exclusive Motors stated, "We are glad to have partnered with an iconic brand like LEVC. India is an emerging market for electric vehicles, and there could not be a better time for LEVC to make its foray into the country. The technology, aesthetics, and practicality of the vehicle is certain to win over the Indian customers in the days to come."
The LEVC TX is the latest in a line of black cabs (stretching back to the year 1902) that have become an integral part of the British capital. The new TX retains the iconic Hackney carriage body style that made the older cabs such a recognisable icon on the streets of London. However, the retro design is augmented by the modern LED headlights and taillights which add a modern character to the old school looks of the iconic black cab.
The LEVC TX is a zero-emissions capable vehicle and draws power from a 149bhp Siemens electric motor that also sends 255Nm of peak torque to the rear wheels. The motor is connected to a 33kW battery pack supplied by LG Chem. The battery pack delivers an electric-only range of 101 kilometres on a single charge. The battery pack supports both 22kW AC and 50kW DC charging standards.
However, the LEVC TX is not purely electric. Instead, the London black cab is a plug-in hybrid. However, unlike regular hybrids, the TX only uses its Volvo sourced three-cylinder 1.5-litre turbo petrol as a generator to top up its battery pack. With the help of this turbo petrol generator, the LEVC TX has a combined range of 510 kilometres.
The LEVC TX is quite a large vehicle measuring 4,857 mm long and 1,874 mm wide. The height of the black cab comes in at 1,888 mm while the wheelbase comes in at just 14mm shy of three metres - 2,986 mm. Despite its large size, the TX has a turning circle of just 8.45 metres, which makes it quite manoeuvrable.
The large wheelbase of the LEVC TX means that it can seat 6 passengers at the rear comfortably. The London Cab is also easy to access for wheelchair users and also features a purpose-built partition separating the driver from the occupants at the back.
Thoughts about the London Cab Coming To India
The LEVC TX is just the vehicle the taxi market needs right now as it too switches towards a zero-emissions future. Also, seeing the iconic London Cab on Indian streets may just want you to put your hand out and call "Taxi'.
