South Korean carmaker Kia will reveal its new three row MPV 'codenamed' KY on the 16th of December. The new 7-seater MPV is based on the Seltos SUV and is expected to sport the Carens name when it is revealed to the world next month.
So what can we expect from the Kia KY MPV?
Kia KY MPV Styling
The all-new Kia KY MPV has been spotted testing in the wild and the new MPV features an SUV like design. The Kia KY MPV is expected to look quite similar to the Seltos SUV, at least from the front end.
The three row, KY MPV, is expected to be a 7 seater vehicle with a more premium 6 seater version also expected to arrive with two chairs for each row. The third row of seats is expected to be quite useful even for adults thanks to the larger wheelbase of the new MPV.
Kia KY Engine and Gearbox
The all-new Kia KY is expected to feature the same 1.4 and 1.5-litre engine options as the ones found under the bonnet of the Seltos. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 113bhp at 6,300rpm and 144Nm of torque at 4,500rpm. The engine is paired to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox.
The 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine cranks out 113bhp at 4,000rpm and 250Nm of peak torque at 1,500rpm and is mated to either manual or torque converter automatic 6-speed transmissions.
The most powerful of the engine options on the new Kia KY MPV is expected to be the 1.4-litre turbocharged four cylinder petrol. The turbocharged inline-four petrol engine pushes out 138bhp at 6,000rpm and 248Nm of peak torque at just 1,500rpm. The engine is paired to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Kia KY MPV India Launch Details, Expected Price & Rivals
The Kia KY will make its global debut on the 16th of December but the event is just expected to be a preview of the new MPV. The Kia KY will be officially launched in India in the first quarter (January to March) of 2022 with the Carens nameplate. Prices for the production Kia KY MPV are expected to start at around the Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) mark. The new Kia KY is expected to rival the Maruti Suzuki XL6. A Hyundai derivative of the KY SUV is also expected to arrive soon after with some reports suggesting that it could bear the Stargazer nameplate.
Thoughts On The Kia KY MPV
The Kia KY MPV promises to be another hit for the fast moving South Korean brand in India. With its seven seater layout and Seltos-derived design, the new KY MPV is sure to attract the right amount of attention in the Indian market which currently seems to be under a spell when it comes to Kia.
