Jeep Commander (H6) Spy Pics: Seven Seater SUV Spotted Testing In India Ahead Of Launch
Jeep will be launching a three-row seating SUV in the Indian and international markets. The company has globally revealed the 'Commander' name for the upcoming SUV. The Commander internally codenamed (H6) will be based on the Compass SUV. It has been spotted testing ahead of its launch in India.
Spy images from Autocar India, reveals two completely camouflaged test mules of the Commander SUV testing in the country. As per the reports, the Right-Hand drive models of the Commander will be built in India for the domestic and international markets.
As the upcoming Commander will be based on the Compass, most of the interior and exterior features are expected to be shared between both SUVs. However, the majority of changes on the Commander will be made at the back of the SUV both to the exterior and the cabin of the SUV.
The rear of the Commander is expected to have a more straight-up stance to make for more headroom and legroom for passengers sitting in the third row. With the upright design, the seats can be pushed further back to seat most adults in the last row of seats. Whether the design will compromise on the boot space, remains to be seen.
Some of the exteriors features of the Commander will include LED headlamps, and taillamps, dual-tone alloy wheels, the brand's signature vertical slat grille, LED fog lamps, front and rear parking sensors with a 360-degree parking camera, roof rails, all-around body cladding and more.
Moving to the interiors of the Commander, the company is expected to offer the upcoming SUV in two seating configurations. The 6-seater model will feature captain seats in the second row, while the 7-seater SUV will feature a bench seat in the middle.
To enhance the experience for third-row passengers, the SUV is expected to feature air-con vents, mobile charging ports, and cup holders; among others. The ingress and egress into the third row could be made easy with a one-touch tumble second-row seats.
Other features on the Commander such as the touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument console, ventilated and power-operated seats on the front row, multiple zone climate control, wireless charging pad, and a panoramic sunroof will be borrowed from the Compass SUV.
Jeep is yet to announce the complete details of the powertrain options on the Commander. It will be offered with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that does its duties on the Compass. The turbocharged diesel engine on the Compass produces a maximum of 173bhp and 350Nm of peak torque.
However, according to the report, the company will retune the engine to produce 200bhp with top-spec variants featuring all-wheel-drive systems. The Commander could also be offered with the brand's new 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, currently available in various models sold in International markets.
The report from the media publication also suggests that Commander might not be the name of the upcoming SUV in the Indian market. The name 'Commnader' was previously used and registered in the Indian market by Mahindra. As a result, Jeep could use a different name for the upcoming three-row SUV just for the Indian market, based on the sour history between both brands.
