Hyundai Venue Vs Hyundai i20; Which One Should You Pick?
Indian consumers are very hard to please and are very sensitive to pricing. So, what if you are on a budget and looking for a comfortable sub-4m car that is equally at home in cities and on open roads.
In this scenario, premium hatchbacks and compact SUVs fit the bill perfectly for an Indian consumer. For this comparison, let us take the Hyundai i20 and Hyundai Venue, and compare them on five different parameters - Design, Features, Space, Safety, and Price.
We shall skip the powertrain comparison as both vehicles from Hyundai use an almost identical powertrain setup, and the only major difference lies in gearbox combination, as the i20 offers a CVT automatic gearbox with the 1.2-litre petrol engine.
1. Design
Indian consumers always have a liking for SUVs and nowadays, the craze for SUVs has spread to international markets irrespective of the segment. On the other hand, hatchbacks are generally considered an efficient and more affordable type of passenger vehicle.
However, in this case, both vehicles from Hyundai look premium and doesn't look cheap. Despite being a hatchback, the Hyundai i20 doesn't feel 'budget limited' at all and the overall proportions are spot-on and look very upmarket.
The Hyundai Venue on the other hand looks equally upmarket but comes with the added presence of an SUV. This means you are more likely to get noticed driving a Hyundai Venue than a Hyundai i20.
So, if you are someone looking for a discreet ride, then the Hyundai i20 is the car for you but if you like to shout about your arrival (on a budget), the Hyundai Venue is the car you should buy.
2. Features
As we are comparing the base trim levels, the features list on both vehicles is a lot less than their respective top-end models. However, there is a significant level of difference in the feature list of both vehicles.
Starting with the Hyundai Venue, the base variant of the compact SUV comes with bare essential features such as body-coloured door handles, wheel covers, front map pockets, front power windows, tiltable steering, front power outlet and a few more.
On the other hand, the base variant of the Hyundai i20 comes much better equipped with features such as body-coloured ORVMs, front and rear door map pockets, sunglass holder, 2-Din integrated audio system with FM/AM, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, front and rear speakers, front tweeters, and steering mounted audio controls.
Moreover, it also comes equipped with i-Blue (audio remote application), electrically adjustable ORVMs, front and rear power windows, rear AC vents, cooled glove box, tilt and telescopic power steering, USB charger at the rear, electric fuel gate open and many more.
Clearly, the premium hatchback in this comparison lives up to its name by offering a lot more features for almost the same price and footprint.
3. Space
Measuring at 3995x1770x1605mm and with a wheelbase of 2,500mm, the Hyundai Venue is 5mm slimmer and 100mm taller than the Hyundai i20. This means the Hyundai Venue offers a lot more headroom and is suitable for taller people.
On the other hand, the Hyundai i20 offers 80mm more wheelbase, this could translate to more legroom compared to Hyundai Venue.
However, despite having a longer wheelbase, the boot space offered by the Hyundai i20 is 39-litres less than Hyundai Venue at 311-litres.
4. Safety
In terms of safety, both vehicles offer decent safety features such as 2 airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, day and night mirrors, central locking, impact sensing auto door unlock, speed sensing auto door lock, seat belt reminder, seat belt pre-tensioners, ISOFIX seats, Immobilizer and a few more
However, the Hyundai i20 is more likely to be more stable at higher speeds due to its longer wheelbase and lower centre of gravity.
5. Price
The Hyundai Venue starts from Rs 6,99,200 for the base 'E' variant equipped with a 1.2-litre Kappa engine and 5-speed manual transmission, whereas the Hyundai i20 with the same powertrain in its base 'Magna' variant costs Rs 6,91,200.
This means the base variant of the Hyundai i20 is Rs 8,000 cheaper than the base variant of the Hyundai Venue.
