Hyundai Teases SEVEN Concept Ahead Of LA Debut

South Korean carmaker Hyundai has teased the upcoming SEVEN Concept ahead of its debut at this year's LA Motor Show on the 17th of November. The SEVEN concept previews the design of the Ioniq 7 SUV from Hyundai which is expected to arrive in 2024. The Ioniq 7 will be the third vehicle in Hyundai's Ioniq EV lineup after the current Ioniq 5 crossover and the Ioniq 6 electric sedan which arrives next year.

The teaser images of the concept show off a few of the design themes that Hyundai's design department have come up with for the SEVEN, some of which are expected to make their way onto the production-spec electric SUV.

The first of the images shows the daytime running lights and headlight of the concept SUV which show off the latest iteration of the Ioniq sub-brand's now iconic parametric pixel lighting design structure. Along with the chunky vertical headlight and the daytime running lights(which appear to be a single strip of LEDs running across the front of the SUV), the SEVEN name appears in a stylised font on the front bumper of the concept vehicle.

The other teaser shots of the SEVEN concept, show glimpses of an interior that can only be found on a concept vehicle. The interior images seem more in line with a luxury lounge setting rather than the insides of a vehicle and signal the audience that Hyundai will target with the production spec Inoniq 7.

The interior images show off liberal usage of sustainably sourced wood and other fabrics which can be seen on the beautifully crafted seats and on the side panels. The images also demonstrate the creative usages of interior lighting while also showing off what appears to be quite a spacious interior.

With the Ioniq 7 expected to offer five or seven seat options, the SEVEN concept is also expected to show off what can only be described as a rather large SUV. The Ioniq 5 electric crossover currently has a wheelbase of 3,000 millimetres which is quite large. The upcoming Ioniq 7, which will be the flagship of the Ioniq lineup from Hyundai is expected to easily dwarf the 5, so expect massiveness.

When the Ioniq 7 enters production, it will be based on Hyundai and Kia's E-GMP electric car platform that will also underpin the Ioniq 6 and Kia's upcoming EVs as well. The 800V electronic architecture of the E-GMP platform will allow the large SUV to charge at speeds up to 350kW at heavy duty rapid DC chargers which allow batteries to recoup 100 kilometres of range in just 5 minutes.

Thoughts On The Hyundai SEVEN Concept

The Hyundai SEVEN concept previews Hyundai's upcoming flagship EV. While the concept vehicle may be as zany as any other crazy concept car, it will show off what we can expect from the production SUV in terms of design and materials.
