2021 LA Auto Show: Hyundai Reveals Quirky SEVEN Concept SUV

South Korean carmaker Hyundai has revealed the SEVEN concept electric SUV at the 2021 LA Auto Show.

South Korean carmaker Hyundai has revealed the SEVEN electric SUV concept at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show. The SEVEN previews Hyundai's upcoming Ioniq 7 electric SUV that is due to arrive in 2024.

Hyundai has not revealed any details regarding the exact details of the SEVEN concept's powertrain. The SUV is based on the Hyundai Group's EGMP platform and the company claims that the SEVEN has a range of 300 miles (483 kilometres). The Hyundai SEVEN also supports rapid charging which allows the SUV to go from 10 to 80 per cent charge in about 20 minutes when connected to a heavy-duty 350kW DC charger.

Speaking at the unveiling of the SEVEN concept in Los Angeles, José Muñoz, President and CEO, Hyundai Motor North America said, "The SEVEN concept demonstrates Hyundai's creative vision and advanced technological development for our electrified mobility future. Its innovative interior space, eco-friendly powertrain and cutting-edge safety and convenience technologies reveal an exciting future for Hyundai SUV customers."

In terms of size, the SEVEN is quite massive. The concept SUV has a wheelbase of 3,200mm which is 400mm longer than the wheelbase of Hyundai's current largest SUV - the Santa Fe.

In terms of design, the SEVEN concept features a very distinctive look with a large lightbar running across its width up front. Also seen are two vertically stacked headlights that flank either side of the massive front end of the concept. The front lighting is done up in the Ioniq sub-brand's iconic Parametric Pixel design and also form a welcome light to the owners when the SUV is opened.

The sides of the SEVEN concept feature pillarless coach doors, better known as suicide doors to modern-day car nuts. The sides also play host to large wheel arches that house massive wheels. These large wheels feature integrated active air flaps, which deploy or retract depending on brake-cooling or low-drag requirements. Also seen prominently on the sides is the sloping roofline of the concept SUV.

The rear end of the SEVEN concept looks quite similar to the iconic Ferrari 250 GTO Breadvan's design. The massive rear windscreen is surrounded on all sides by the taillights of the concept SUV.

The interiors of the Hyundai SEVEN are even zanier than the exterior. The SEVEN concept has been dreamed up as a fully autonomous vehicle and does not feature a steering wheel. However, Hyundai has provided the SEVEN concept with a joystick-like controller that pops out of the armrest for the driver's seat.

The dashboard of the SEVEN plays host to a very large widescreen display. The SEVEN features an even larger screen on its roof which y displays various content based on passengers' tastes, but also changes the overall interior atmosphere to guarantee maximum relaxation and pleasure during the journey.

The seven features lounge-style seating and the production-spec version of the SUV will sport 3 rows of seats. The concept car though features a very unique seating setup with large seats for the driver and one of the passengers along with a large bench seat that curves along the sides of the SUV.

Hyundai claims that the SEVEN's exterior features bio-paint and that the concept vehicle uses hygienically-recycled and renewable materials throughout the interior including, mineral plaster, bamboo wood and carpet, bio-resin and interior paint.

The Hyundai SEVEN also features a UVC sterilisation system to keep the insides of the concept free from germs. The car deploys the feature when there are n passengers on board and the integrated sanitizing UVC lights help clean the insides of bacteria and viruses.

Thoughts On The Hyundai SEVEN

The Hyundai SEVEN previews a massive SUV from the Korean carmaker that will dwarf anything in its current lineup. The massive SEVEN looks quite cool and if the design of the production car is anywhere close to that of this concept then we would be very pleasantly surprised.
