Hyundai India Is Planning To Launch Six New Electric Cars In India By 2028

The announcement regarding its plans for launching 6 electric cars by 2028 was made on Wednesday and the Korean automotive giant said that it will be introducing its E-GMO modular architecture in the country.

The company also added that the future electric vehicles from Hyundai will be based on the E-GMP architecture and will be available in different body styles.

Hyundai's E-GMP architecture is a dedicated platform for electric vehicles and the EVs built on this platform will range from mass-market models to top-tier premium segments.

Despite India being one of the biggest markets for automobile manufacturers, the personal electric vehicle segment in India is yet to find traction compared to many other global markets. One of the biggest reasons for the lack of growth in the personal electric vehicle sector can be attributed to the lack of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

To counter the issue of lack of charging infrastructure, Hyundai India will also be focussing its resources on developing charging infrastructure across the country to support charging of its electric vehicles in future.

For developing charging infrastructure in the country, Hyundai India will be joining hands with local EV charging companies.

Hyundai Motor India has been delighting customers with the most innovative and technologically advanced mobility solutions over the last two and a half decades."

Hyundai already has an electric vehicle in its current product portfolio, the Kona EV, and the vehicle has been meeting expectations in Tier 1 Indian cities like Delhi, Bengaluru and Delhi.

By launching 6 new electric vehicles in the coming years, Hyundai is aggressively moving forward in the EV game to take the first-mover advantage in the industry.

Moreover, Hyundai could also offer the Kona EV with a bigger 64 kWh lithium-ion battery pack for a longer range compared to the current model which offers an ARAI certified range of 452 kms using its 39.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Speaking about the Hyundai Kona EV, the all-electric EV from the Korean manufacturer is powered by a PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) electric motor. This electric motor puts out 135 bhp and 395 Nm of torque from the moment you slam the throttle pedal.

Hyundai says that the Kona EV can reach 100 kmph from a standstill in just 9.7 seconds and charge from 0-80 per cent battery capacity under an hour using a 50 kW DC fast charger. However, using an AC charger takes 6 hours and 10 mins to replenish the battery to 100 per cent capacity.

Thoughts About Hyundai's Aggressive EV Plans For India

It is certain that Hyundai is gearing up for a massive EV revolution in India and the Korean automobile giant wants to become the front runner in this revolution in the country. Apart from that, Hyundai's plans to collaborate with local players for setting up charging infrastructure is a clever move by the Korean automobile giant.
