Hyundai is gearing up to launch its performance N Line range of cars in India. According to recent reports, the company is likely to unveil the i20 N Line on August 24, 2021. The i20 N Line will be the first model to launch under the performance brand in the country.
The i20 N Line has been spotted testing several times ahead of its unveiling in India. The hot hatch will feature a host of cosmetic and mechanical upgrades over the standard model that is on sale in India.
However, the company is unlikely to bring the top-spec i20 N Line powered by a 1.6 T-GDi turbo-petrol engine. Instead, it will feature the same 1.0-litre T-GDi turbo-petrol unit from the outgoing model of the i20.
Based on the recently leaked government document, Hyundai will offer the i20 N Line in three variants: N6 iMT (clutchless manual), N8 iMT, and N8 DCT (dual-clutch automatic). These variants could be based on the Sportz, Asta and Asta (O) trims of the standard hatchback, respectively.
Visually, the i20 N Line features an aggressive and sporty design inside and out. The exteriors of the hot hatch feature reworked bumpers and a blacked-out grille with N Line badging. The treatment at the rear are also similar and have been enhanced for sporty looks. The performance hatchback will also feature 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels.
On the inside, the i20 N Line will continue to come loaded with a ton of features including the large touchscreen, digital instrument cluster and connected technology; among others. However, there is a contrast of red stitching and red accents in the overall cabin's design with a blacked-out theme to give the interior's of the i20 N Line a sporty look.
As mentioned earlier, the global spec of the i20 N Line is offered in two engine options. However, we will be receiving the lower-spec engine version of the hot hatch.
1.6-litre T-GDi engine
- Max power: 201bhp @ 6,000rpm
- Peak torque: 275Nm @ 4,500rpm
- Max power: 118bhp @ 6,000rpm
- Peak torque: 200Nm @ 3,000rpm
1.0-litre T-GDi engine
The 1.0-litre T-GDi engine will come mated to either an iMT clutchless transmission or the seven-speed DCT. While changes under the bonnet will be similar to the standard model, the suspension on the i20 N Line is likely to be upgraded.
The company could offer a different suspension setup to help chuck the hot hatch around corners and could stiffen the chassis to reduce body roll and keep all four wheels planted to the road. All these are yet to be officially confirmed by the company, which is expected to happen on August 24.
Hyundai recently announced that they will launch the N Line performance brand in India. They also stated that the N Line vehicles will carry three core values to make them appealing to buyers. These are motorsport-inspired styling cues, accessibility for all and everyday excitement.
Thoughts About The Hyundai i20 N Line India Unveil Date Revealed
Buyers in India have started to seek more performance from their car purchases. The demand for turbo-petrol engines is going up as more brands have started to offer the powertrain on their products. As a result, the launch of the N Line performance brand in India is expected to be well received.
Although we would have loved to see the full-blow i20 N with 201bhp, we might have to settle for the lower-spec engine for now. Once launched, the i20 N Line will rival the likes of the Volkswagen Polo GT and the Tata Altroz iTurbo in India.
