Hyundai Alcazar Expected To Recieve New Engine: More Details Leaked Ahead Of Launch
The Hyundai Alcazar SUV is essentially an extended version of the Creta SUV with an additional row of seating. As a result, the upcoming SUV is expected to be powered by the same set of powertrains that are currently offered on the Hyundai Creta.
However, a recent report from TeamBHP suggests that the Alcazar could be offered with a bigger petrol engine. Hyundai could plonk the same 2.0-litre petrol engine that currently powers the Elantra sedan and the Tucson SUV.
The 2.0-litre ‘NU' petrol engine is a four-cylinder DOHC naturally-aspirated unit. It produces a maximum of 150bhp at 6200rpm and a peak torque of 192Nm at 4000rpm. The engine on both the sedan and the SUV comes mated to a six-speed torque converter.
Apart from the above-mentioned 2.0-litre petrol engine, the Alcazar is also expected to be offered with a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine. In comparison, the 1.4-litre forced induction unit produces a maximum of 138bhp at 6000rpm and a peak torque of 242Nm between 1500rpm and 3200rpm — which is 2bhp less and 50Nm more than the larger NA unit. Furthermore, the 1.4-litre TGDi engine is offered with a seven-speed DCT transmission as standard.
However, the decision on offering the larger NA engine becomes clear when it is compared with a 1.5-litre MPi unit offered on the Creta. The 1.5-litre engine produces a maximum of 113bhp at 6300rpm and a peak torque of 144Nm at 4500rpm.
The power figures might not be enough to propel the three-row SUV to offer optimum performance, especially with all seats occupied. As a result, the South Korean automaker could offer the upcoming Alcazar with a larger NA petrol engine.
