Geely's Farizon Auto Reveals Homtruck — Tesla Semi Rival Is A Home On Wheels

The Farizon Auto Homtruck from Geely is built on a highly modular architecture that allows for multiple powertrains; methanol, range extender or swappable batteries. Yes, this Homtruck can run on Methanol, which also powers the world's most insane drag racers who race in the Top Fuel category.

Farizon Auto hasn't revealed any more details about the output of the three powertrains on offer. However, the company has revealed that the Methanol powered truck will be a hybrid unit.

In its pure electric form, the Farizon Auto Homtruck features swappable battery packs which conform to the new standards set by the Chinese Government's Ministry of Industry and Technology. The battery packs can be swapped out in a matter of minutes at service stations on highways across China. This should mean that truckers lose less time for a full charge compared to solutions that involve actually plugging the vehicle into a charger.

Geely claims that the Homtruck is named after the original aspiration of its creators to make a semi-truck that feels like home, while also meeting the living and emotional needs of its drivers. This homely feeling can be best experienced in the cabin of the Homtruck.

The Homtruck's cockpit features a bathroom complete with a shower and toilet, single bed, refrigerator, tea maker, kitchen, and even a small washing machine. The company claims that the ergonomic seat design and the high-definition camera helps ensure drivers are well-rested and well-focused, while the intelligent AI assistant coupled with full 360-degree cameras help to keep the driver aware of any issues around the vehicle whilst in motion or stationary.

The Homtruck's cabin features soft-touch fabrics, sustainable plastics, and bamboo grain materials to create a healthy eco-friendly environment which the company claims is inspired by the bamboo forests of China.

The Homtruck also features a host of hardware sensors such as lidar, millimetre-wave radar and ultrasonic radar will be standard equipment along with 5G and V2X communication. The Homtruck will also be able to get Over The Air (OTA) updates. The Homtruck will feature Level 4 autonomous driving features, though the full L4 functionality is only expected to arrive by 2030.

Speaking at the Homtruck's unveiling, Eric Li, Chairperson of Geely Holding Group, said, "Farizon Auto's Homtruck is the result of the synergies between Geely Holding's technological expertise and its partners in the global automotive industry. The Homtruck represents a significant move towards a net zero-carbon freight transportation system and opens the door to a new era for the logistics industry".

While the company has not revealed the exact details about the powertrains of the Homtruck, Geely still has around two years before the truck hits the highways to show us if this truck can take on Tesla's long-delayed Semi.
