FASTag To Be Implemented On Yamuna Expressway From Next Month: Here Are All Details

FASTag is currently the safest and quickest way to make toll booth payments in the country. As a result, FASTag technology is being implemented by more highway toll booths across the country.

The latest implementation will be done on the Yamuna Expressway between Delhi and Agra. Travellers using the highway will soon have to get FASTags fixed to their vehicles to complete toll transactions.

Starting February tolls at the Yamuna Expressway will have FASTag system implemented for electronic toll collection. The toll booth and highway officials have begun preparations to implement the contactless and digital toll collection system. According to reports, the toll booth at the Yamuna Expressway is expected to start the FASTag system by around February 15, 2021.

Being one of the most important highways in India, the Yamuna Expressway sees over 40,000 vehicles entering the toll booth every day. These include both private and commercial vehicles with heavy loads. Due to a non-digital toll collection, the booths are often plagued with long queues. With the introduction of FASTag, the queuing of vehicles at toll booths is expected to be nil.

The (NHAI) National Highways Authority Of India recently extended the deadline date to mandate the use of FASTag in the country. The deadline for mandatory use of FASTag for all vehicles was initially set on January 1, 2021. However, the authorities have decided to extend the dates by a few weeks. The new deadline is set to February 15, 2021.

According to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, the FASTag had been made mandatory for all registration of new four-wheeler vehicles. New vehicles will come with a FASTag fitted right from the factory. Customer looking to purchase a FASTag can get it from various online and offline options.

All vehicles going through the highway tolls across the country need to have a valid FASTag for toll transactions. After the deadline, the highway tolls will no longer accept cash as a mode of payment and have to be electronically using the FASTag.

Apart from the toll collection, the FASTag has been made mandatory for annual renewals of vehicle documents. This includes the third party insurance and the (PUC) Pollution Under Control emission certificate.

Thoughts About The FASTag Implementation On Yamuna Expressway

With the implementation of FASTag, the transaction at the Yamuna Expressway is all set to become faster. However, travellers on the Expressway will now to get FASTags soon to make for an easy and hassle-free transition for toll booth payments.
