Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Under FAME II: 350 Units Installed; State-Wise Numbers & More
Indian Government installs 350 charging stations under the FAME II scheme across various cities in the country. The government has sanctioned the installation of 2,877 EV charging stations under the FAME II scheme.
Under the FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and EV) scheme the 350 charging stations are up in running in various cities. This includes Chandigarh (48), Delhi (94), Jaipur (49), Bengaluru (45), Ranchi (29), Lucknow (1), Goa (17), Hyderabad (50), Agra (10), & Shimla (7).
These chargers feature fast charging technology that will help juice up the battery in electric vehicles in a short time. This reduces the range anxiety, which is a major issue with EV buyers in the country.
Speaking about the charging stations installed under the FAME II scheme, Krishan Pal Gurjar, Minister of State for Heavy Industries, stated that his department sanctioned 520 charging stations worth Rs 43.4 crore under Phase-I of the FAME II India Scheme.
Additionally, the government has sanctioned 2,877 EV charging stations amounting to Rs 500 crore across 68 cities in India. Phase-II of the FAME India Scheme came into effect from April 1, 2019, will remain in effect till March 31, 2024. The scheme has a total budget of Rs 10,000 crores for faster adoption of EVs in India.
Justifying the budget under the FAME II scheme, Krishan added that a total of 3,61,000 electric vehicles have been incentivised at Rs 600 crore, as of July 9, 2021, since the EV-adoption policy was initiated in April 2015. And 862 electric buses incentivised to about Rs 492 crore, have been deployed, as of June 30, 2021.
The FAME II scheme aims to add approximately 7,000 electric buses, 5,00,000 electric three-wheelers, 55,000 electric passenger cars and 10,00,000 electric two-wheelers. These are in addition to building robust charging infrastructure across the country.
While the India Government is making an all-out effort for faster adoption of EVs in the country. Several State Governments have joined the efforts and announced additional incentives to help EV buyers in the country. Maharashtra was the latest state government to announce an EV policy, which is heavily incentivised in addition to the existing FAME II scheme — here are all details.
Thoughts About The 350 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Installed Under FAME II Scheme
Electric vehicles are no longer the future of mobility but they are slowly becoming the current choice of transport across the world. However, in India, it is still at a nascent stage with the lack of infrastructure to support everyday use. The India Government is addressing this issue by heavily incentivising charging infrastructure, EV makers, EV component makers and EV buyers in the country.
