Citroen C3 India Launch Teased Ahead Of Its Unveil On September 16: 130bhp Flex-Fuel Engine
The French car manufacturer, Citroen has released the teaser images of its upcoming SUV the Citroen C3 ahead of its debut in India.
The announcement of its global debut and teaser image was released via the French manufacturer's official social media handle. As per Citroen, the Citroen C3 SUV will make its global debut on September 16 2021.
Codenamed CC21, Citroen calls the upcoming Citroen C3 SUV 'Made In India for Indians', and it will also be the country's first SUV to come with a flex-fuel engine. This engine is compatible with both petrol and ethanol-based fuel.
According to many sources, the Citroen CC21 SUV will be called 'C3' in majority of the markets. Speaking of which, the upcoming Citroen C3 SUV will be initially launched in Asian markets, post which, it will be launched in Latin American markets.
Unlike the Citroen C5 Aircross SUV that was previously launched in India, the Citroen C3 SUV is a compact SUV measuring less than 4-metre in length. Moreover, when launched in India, the Citroen C3 SUV will be put in one of the most competitive automotive segments and will compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV300.
According to sources, the upcoming Citroen C3 SUV will make use of a 1.2-litre turbocharged flex-fuel engine capable of pushing out 130 bhp. However, the SUV may get a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine at least as an option to keep the cost down.
The engine powering the Citroen C3 SUV will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, though an automatic gearbox will be offered as an option.
According to Citroen, the Citroen C3 SUV will utilise the French manufacturer's Common Modular Platform (CMP) to keep the production costs down in order to make the SUV more affordable in markets like India. This is to capitalise on the rising demands for SUVs under the 'Sub-4-metre' category.
From the teaser image released by Citroen, it is clear that the upcoming Citroen C3 SUV will look substantially different to the C5 Aircross with its split LED DRLs that merge with the grille which in turn seamlessly integrates with the Citroen logo. However, expect the upcoming Citroen C3 SUV to come with a quirky design language.
At present, Citroen's only vehicle available for sale in India is the Citroen C5 Aircross SUV. An SUV which has been tasked with brand-building for Citroen in India. Hence the Citroen C5 Aircross SUV was launched as a premium SUV in the Indian market.
The Citroen C5 Aircross SUV compete against the like of Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and Volkswagen Tiguan in India.
The Citroen C5 Aircross SUV is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine with 176bhp and 400Nm of torque, and it is mated to a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Thoughts About The Upcoming Citroen C3
Compact SUVs are currently the hottest segment in India. The Citroen C3 seems late to the party. However, we expect it to make a huge impact for the brand depending on the pricing.
The current crop of sub-4-metre SUVs is the default choice for many prospective buyers in India. If Citroen can replicate the C5 Aircross's DNA by offering an extra dose of comfort, it gives buyers a unique offering in the segment.
