Mazda Motor Corporation's Mazda 3 has won the 2020 World Car Design of the Year. The World Car Design of the Year category and the corresponding award are meant to highlight new vehicles with innovation and style that push established boundaries. A panel of seven design experts picked the Mazda 3 as this year's winner.

In fact, it received a unanimous vote from the jurors with everyone agreeing that the car has the most bewitching design of all the vehicles that made it to the shortlist. All vehicles competing for the World Car Design of the Year were judged by a panel of seven highly respected world design experts.

The panel included Anne Asensio (France - Vice-President, Design - Dassault Systemes), Gernot Bracht (Germany - Pforzheim Design School), Ian Callum (United Kingdom - Director of Design, CALLUM), Patrick le Quément (France - Designer and President of the Strategy Committee - The Sustainable Design School), Tom Matano (USA - School of Industrial Design at Academy of Art University in San Francisco), Gordon Murray (U.K. - Gordon Murray Design) and Shiro Nakamura (Japan - CEO, Shiro Nakamura Design Associates Inc.).

Sure, the Mazda 3 appears more ‘traditional' when compared to its hatchback model, but it makes up heavily with fantastic space at the rear - basically making the luxury sedan more appealing.

Key highlights of the Mazda 3 include an eight-speaker sound system, an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, 16-inch alloy wheels, electronically controlled ORVMs, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a multitude of advanced safety features that include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, a lane-departure warning system, lane-keeping assistance, automatic high beams, and a driver attention alert system.

At the heart of the Mazda 3 is a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that produces 182 brake horsepower and 250Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions. Front wheel drive and all-wheel drive options are available with the manual and the automatic transmissions, respectively.

The Mazda 3 sedan is priced between USD 22,420 and USD 27,420 (roughly between Rs 17.13 lakh and Rs 20.95 lakh, plus duties, registration, and taxes - it's not like we'll see the Mazda any time soon, but that's fantastic pricing for the car that just won the 2020 World Car Design of the Year!

Congratulations to the design team at Mazda Motor Corporation. They've done a spectacular job and definitely deserve the 2020 World Car of the Year for creating such a thing of beauty. While we think the car is really really gorgeous, looks mean, and ready to become a superstar, we're somewhat unsure if a certain Mr Bubble-O-Seven would approve.
