Volvo To Recall 2.2 Million Cars Across The Globe For Seat Belt Issues
Whenever a car manufacturer sees that a lot of vehicles are facing the same kind of issues, then they recall the entire lot and fix it. However, Volvo will be recalling nearly 2.2 million (22 lakh) cars across the globe which were built between 2006 and 2019. This has been done so that the company can address the potential issue with the steel cables attached to the front passenger seat belts.
According to a report by Carwale, this would be the carmaker's biggest-ever recall. The affected models include the V60, V70 and XC60. However, models like S60, S60L, S60CC, V60CC, XC70, S80, and S80L could also face the same issues. Luckily, there have been no accidents or injuries regarding the seatbelt issue so far. As far as safety is concerned, Volvo is one of the first brands that comes to the mind and they cannot afford to lose that reputation.
The customers are requested to contact the retailer and have their cars looked at free of cost. So what exactly happened? The steel cable of the front seats, under certain rare circumstances, might have suffered some damage, which could cause damage to the cable and reduced seat belt restraint function.
In India, only 333 cars are affected. However, this is not a time-bound recall, and hence the dealerships are informed to check the concerned vehicles during the routine service visit.
In other Volvo news, the company earlier announced that all its cars going forward will come with a limited top speed of 180km/h. This top speed limiter will be standard across all-new Volvo cars sold globally in the future. The company has introduced this feature as a method to reduce injuries and fatalities from driving cars at high speeds. The company has also introduced a ‘Care Key', which allows Volvo drivers to set additional speed limiters.
Apart from speeding, Volvo has also identified two other areas of concern: Intoxication and Distraction. Volvo might be working on introducing safety technology for these areas as well, given its aim of achieving zero traffic injuries and fatalities.
Thoughts About Volvo Recalling Cars For Seat Belt Issues
As we mentioned above, as far as safety goes, Volvo aims to achieve zero traffic injuries and fatalities. The seatbelt is one of the main things for passenger safety and if that is not working properly, then there can be some serious damage at low speeds also.
