Toyota To Launch The Urban Cruiser Soon In The Indian Market
Toyota joined hands with Suzuki last year to develop new cars, platforms and technologies. The first car after the collaboration was the Toyota Glanza, which is Toyota's badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, but is being positioned as a more premium alternative. It certainly is more premium with the kind of features being offered with the car.
However, Toyota is now ready to launch the second product in the form of a re-badged version of the Vitara Brezza. This upcoming SUV is likely to be called the Toyota Urban Cruiser and is expected to be launched later this year.
As far as the engine is concerned, mechanically, the new models will source engine options from Maruti Suzuki. It is likely to receive the 1.5-litre diesel engine, which Maruti is planning to re-introduce in the market. On the other hand, it could also get a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system. Moreover, Maruti Suzuki is also working on a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which could also make its way in the SUV.
In other recent Toyota news, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has decided to restart production operations at its manufacturing plant in Karnataka and will take extra preparatory methods to maintain hygiene among its entire workforce.
The company also launched the Tiranga initiative under the Pathanamthitta district administration. The state has started sending out specially developed 'Tiranga' cars which are based on the Toyota Innova MPV, and are being used to screen Coronavirus patients from a safe distance. The first lot of vehicles are called (RSV-1) Rapid Screening Vehicle-1, and an RSV-2 vehicle is still under development. Once launched, these vehicles will collect DNA samples of people who are infected with the COVID-19 virus.
TKM also handed over Rs 2 crore to the Karnataka Government to fight the Coronavirus pandemic. Not only that, but it also handed over 3,000 Hazmat suits to Government Health Volunteers in Karnataka, 1,000 essential kits to daily wage workers while benefiting over 5,000 members, sanitizers and masks to the police department.
Thoughts About The Upcoming SUV From Toyota
After Toyota launched the Glanza, it was a success for the company and we are expecting the same kind of market response for the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser. The new SUV will go up against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, and the Kia Seltos.
