Toyota Fortuner TRD Discontinued In India: Removed From Company Website
Toyota has discontinued its range-topping Fortuner TRD SUV in the Indian market. The Toyota Fortuner TRD was a limited-edition SUV model, which went on sale in the country in August this year. The SUV came with a number of cosmetic and mechanical updates over the standard version.
Toyota has now updated its official website, removing the TRD variant. While it was a limited-edition model, we suspect the discontinuation of the TRD version is due to the expected arrival of the Fortuner facelift model, early next year.
As mentioned before, the Toyota Fortuner TRD came with a number of cosmetic updates, added features and mechanical changes over the standard variant. These included tweaked front and rear bumpers, dual-tone paint scheme with black roof, number of ‘TRD' badging all around the car, new 18-inch alloy wheel design, auto-folding ORVMs, 360-degree camera, illuminated scuff plates, puddle lamps and many others.
Being based on the top-spec variant, the TRD-spec model carried forward all the features and equipment from the standard variant as well. This included bi-beam LED projector headlamps, powered tailgate, electrically-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, cruise control, seven airbags and many others.
All the additional features and equipment on the Fortuner TRD meant a higher price tag as well. The Toyota Fortuner TRD was priced at Rs 34.98 lakh and Rs 36.88 lakh for the 4x2 and 4x4 variants, respectively. All prices are ex-showroom (India). This is a premium of around Rs 2.5 lakh over the standard models.
Along with all the additional features and cosmetic changes, Toyota also offered the Fortuner TRD with a 2.8-litre diesel engine. It produces 175bhp and 450Nm of peak torque and is mated to a standard six-speed automatic gearbox.
Apart from the Toyota Fortuner facelift, the company is also said to be bringing in the Legender version of the SUV to the Indian market. The Toyota Fortuner Legender will be introduced in India, post the introduction of the facelift version, sometime in mid-2021. The Fortuner Legender is a more performance-oriented version of the SUV and will be priced over Rs 40 lakh, ex-showroom — here are the details.
Thoughts On The Toyota Fortuner TRD Discontinued
The Toyota Fortuner TRD was a limited-edition version of the popular SUV in the country. The TRD version of the Fortuner rivalled the Ford Endeavour Sport in India, with the standard model competing against the likes of the Mahindra Alturas G4, Ford Endeavour, Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace and the MG Gloster.
