Toyota Fortuner Price Increase Announced Across Variants: Here Is The New List
Toyota has increased the prices of its flagship SUV, the Fortuner in the Indian market. A price hike of Rs 48,000 has been announced across all variants of the SUV. The Fortuner BS6 SUV retails at a price of Rs 28.66 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi).
The company has not announced the reason for the increase in the SUV's pricing. However, we expect it could have been because of several reasons majorly due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis in the country. Here is the new price list:
Variant | New Price | New Price | Increase |
4×2 MT Petrol | Rs 28.66 lakh | Rs 28.20 lakh | Rs 48,000 |
4×2 AT Petrol | Rs 30.25 lakh | Rs 29.77 lakh | Rs 48,000 |
4×2 MT Diesel | Rs 30.67 lakh | Rs 30.19 lakh | Rs 48,000 |
4×2 AT Diesel | Rs 32.53 lakh | Rs 32.05 lakh | Rs 48,000 |
4×4 MT Diesel | Rs 32.64 lakh | Rs 32.16 lakh | Rs 48,000 |
4×4 AT Diesel | Rs 34.43 lakh | Rs 33.95 lakh | Rs 48,000 |
All prices mentioned are ex-showroom (Delhi)
Like most manufacturers, Toyota Kirloskar Motors had to temporarily suspend its manufacturing and retail operations due to the nation-wide lockdown announced in the country. As a result, the company incurred some losses during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic in the country. This could be one of many reasons for the price hike.
Other reason could be because of achieving BS6 compliance and the extra cost involved in making the petrol and diesel engine that are on offer greener to the environment. There was no price increase that was announced at the time of Fortuner BS6 launch earlier this year, meaning it could have been introductory pricing to support the low sales period during that time.
Speaking about the Toyota Fortuner BS6 model, the company has not made any changes to the SUV apart from the necessary engine update. The Fortuner SUV is offered with two engine options. The 2.7-litre petrol engine that produces 165bhp and 245Nm of torque and comes mated to a five-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.8-litre unit churning out 175bhp and 420Nm of torque, and comes paired to either a six-speed manual or an automatic gearbox.
The SUV continues to feature an electric sunroof, cruise control, leather upholstery, an electric tailgate release, and an eight-way electronically adjustable driver's seat. It also features a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Fortuner comes loaded with safety features including ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, multiple airbags, hill assist control, whiplash concept front seat, three-point ELR seat belts, an engine immobiliser, and a rear parking camera with guidelines; among others.
Toyota is also set to globally unveil the Fortuner facelift model this month. The facelifted SUV is expected to be launched in India sometime during the next year. The 2021 Fortuner model will feature minor design changes made to the interiors and the exteriors of the SUV. The company is also expected to offer the facelifted Fortuner with a powerful engine as well — here are more details.
The Toyota Fortuner rivals the Ford Endeavour, the Skoda Kodiaq, the Mahindra Alturas G4 and the upcoming MG Gloster SUV in the Indian market. By the time the Toyota Fortuner facelifted model arrives in the country, we expect more rivals to get added to the list.
In other news, Toyota has reported 1,639 units sold during May, 2020. The company has seen a massive decline of 88 per cent as compared to the same period during 2019. The main reason behind the massive drop in sales numbers is due to the ongoing crisis that has affected most auto manufacturer including Toyota — here is a complete report.
Thoughts About The Toyota Fortuner Price Increase Announced Across Variants
The Toyota Fortuner has been the best selling SUV in the Indian market bringing in decent volumes for the brand. However, the company has decided to increase the pricing of its flagship SUV by around Rs 48,000. This translates to around 1.5 per cent increase in its ex-showroom value. Whether the price increase will affect sales of the SUV remains to be seen.
