Toyota has increased the prices of its flagship SUV, the Fortuner in the Indian market. A price hike of Rs 48,000 has been announced across all variants of the SUV. The Fortuner BS6 SUV retails at a price of Rs 28.66 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi).

Like most manufacturers, Toyota Kirloskar Motors had to temporarily suspend its manufacturing and retail operations due to the nation-wide lockdown announced in the country. As a result, the company incurred some losses during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic in the country. This could be one of many reasons for the price hike.

Other reason could be because of achieving BS6 compliance and the extra cost involved in making the petrol and diesel engine that are on offer greener to the environment. There was no price increase that was announced at the time of Fortuner BS6 launch earlier this year, meaning it could have been introductory pricing to support the low sales period during that time.

Speaking about the Toyota Fortuner BS6 model, the company has not made any changes to the SUV apart from the necessary engine update. The Fortuner SUV is offered with two engine options. The 2.7-litre petrol engine that produces 165bhp and 245Nm of torque and comes mated to a five-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.8-litre unit churning out 175bhp and 420Nm of torque, and comes paired to either a six-speed manual or an automatic gearbox.

The SUV continues to feature an electric sunroof, cruise control, leather upholstery, an electric tailgate release, and an eight-way electronically adjustable driver's seat. It also features a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Fortuner comes loaded with safety features including ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, multiple airbags, hill assist control, whiplash concept front seat, three-point ELR seat belts, an engine immobiliser, and a rear parking camera with guidelines; among others.

Toyota is also set to globally unveil the Fortuner facelift model this month. The facelifted SUV is expected to be launched in India sometime during the next year.
