The list of the top-10 best-selling cars in India for the month of January 2020 has been released. The list of best-selling cars showcases Maruti Suzuki continuing its domination, occupying the top-five of the ten slots. Among them, the Maruti Dzire sedan comes out on top, registering the highest sales last month.
Here are the top-10 best-selling cars in India for the month of January 2020:
The Maruti Dzire compact-sedan has registered the highest sales in the country during the last month. The sedan registered 22,406 units of sales in January 2020; a 17% growth compared to the same month last year when it recorded 19,073 units.
The Maruti Dzire has been consistently in the top-five every month over the last couple of years; even occupying the top-slot on multiple occasions. The Maruti Dzire competes against the likes of the Honda Amaze and the Volkswagen Ameo in the Indian market.
The Maruti Baleno is the brand's premium hatchback offering in the Indian market. The car recorded sales of 20,485 units last month; a growth of 23% over that of January 2019 when it registered 16,717 units of sales.
The Maruti Baleno is a popular premium hatchback offering in the Indian market, with very little competition from its rivals, such as the Toyota Glanza, Volkswagen Polo and the Honda Jazz. However, with the recent launch of the Tata Altroz, the Baleno could finally get a tough opponent in the coming months.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift comes in third registering 19,981 units of sales. The Maruti Swift currently in its third-generation iteration has remained one of the most popular hatchbacks in the country.
Compared to January 2019, the sales of the Maruti Swift has improved by 6% from 18,795 units. Maruti Suzuki is also said to be working on a hybrid version of the Swift, which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 and is expected to arrive in the Indian market sometime this year.
The Maruti Alto entry-level hatchback has long remained one of the best-selling models in the Indian market. However, the hatchback dropped in yearly sales from 23,360 units in January 2019 to 18,914 units in the previous month; a 19% drop in sales.
Maruti Suzuki recently updated the Alto to comply with the upcoming BS6 emission norms, which did increase prices of the hatchback slightly. The Maruti Alto rivals the likes of the Renault Kwid and Datsun Redi-GO in the Indian market.
The Maruti WagonR seems to have gained a lot of ground in the Indian market in terms of yearly sales. The tall-boy hatchback registered a massive 52% growth between January 2019 and last month. The WagonR sale grew from 10,048 units in January 2019 to 15,232 unit in the previous month.
The Maruti WagonR is popular for its tall boy design, which offers excellent space. The introduction of the new-generation hatchback in 2019 also brought in a number of updates, both in terms of design and interior features; making it an even attractive package.

The Kia Seltos was launched in August 2019 and since then has completely taken over the reigns as the best-selling SUV in the Indian market. The Seltos if offered with a sporty design, strong performing engines with multiple gearbox choices and plenty of features.
The company registered 15,000 units of sales for the Seltos in the month of January 2020, even though it dropped significantly in the previous month, due to unknown reasons. The Seltos even beat the long-standing Vitara Brezza in terms of sales, which is positioned a segment lower.
Seventh on the list of top-selling cars is the Maruti Eeco. The Maruti Suzuki Eeco is a budget people mover offering from the brand in the Indian market. The Eeco registered 12,324 units of sales in the previous month, a growth of 36% from January 2019 when it recorded just a little over 9000 units of sales.
The Maruti Vitara Brezza sales have been on the decline for a while now, with January 2020 being no different. The company registered a 23% decline in sales of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The compact-SUV recorded sales of 10,134 units in January 2020 compared to 13,172 units of sales during the same month last year.
The Hyundai Grand i10/NIOS came in second last at the top-10 best-selling cars list. The Grand i10 hatchback registered 8774 units of sales last month compared to 10,285 units in January 2019; a 15% decline in yearly sales. However, the Hyundai Grand i10/NIOS did beat the sales of the Elite i20; making it the best-selling model from the Korean brand in the Indian market last month.
The sales of the Hyundai Elite i20 has reduced drastically in the past couple of months, even losing out to its smaller sibling, the Grand i10. The premium hatchback offering from the Korean brand registered a 31% decline in yearly sales registering 8,137 units last month, compared to 11,749 units in January 2019.

The top-10 best-selling cars list keeps receiving minor shuffling every month. However, the highlight of the car sales in the month of January 2020 was the entry of the Kia Seltos back into the top-10 list, after a drastic fall in the previous month.
