The auto industry is set to be more electric oriented this year than before. Last year was a few manufacturers launch electric vehicles in the country, and 2020 is shaping up to be a great year for the Electric Revolution in India.

While infrastructure is still in its infancy, manufacturers are doing all they can to boost the electric auto industry in the country. This year will see at least five all-electric cars launched in the country. Here they are, in no particular order.

The Mahindra eKUV100

Mahindra had announced during last year they would launch the eKUV100 all-electric during 2020. In fact, an eKUV100 has been spotted while testing a few times already.

The test mule featured a 15.9kWh Lithium-ion battery and offers a range of 120 kilometers over a full charge. The electric motor produces roughly 53bhp of power and 120Nm of torque.

The vehicle is expected to be launched around July this year, and is expected to make an appearance at the Delhi Auto Expo scheduled for February this year.

The Tata Nexon EV

The Tata Nexon EV is scheduled to launch in India during this month. Tata's all-electric offering will feature a permanent magnet alternate-current motor that will be powered by a 30.2kWh Lithium-ion battery that is liquid-cooled and is IP67 certified.

The Nexon EV will offer a range of 300 kilometers over a single charge, and the battery takes an hour to juice to 80 percent while using a fast charger, and up to eight hours when using a regular charger. The vehicle will be available in three trims - the XM, the XZ+, and the XZ+ Lux.

The MG ZS EV

The company's second offering for the Indian market promises to be a fantastic all-electric car for every day use. The MG ZS EV is scheduled to be launched this month.

The ZS electric SUV features a three-phase permanent synchronous electric magnet motor that produced roughly 140.7bhp of power and 353Nm of torque. The vehicle features a 44.5 kWh Lithium-ion battery, and come loaded with features.

The Audi e-Tron

The Audi e-Tron was showcased during September 2018 in the Untied States, and set to launch in India during the first quarter of this year. What makes the e-Tron special, is that is the company's first electric offering, and an SUV at that.

Audi's all-electric e-Tron SUV features electric motors, one mounted on each axle. The motor at the front produces 167bhp of power and the one mounted at the rear produces 188bhp of power.

That makes for an impressive total of 355bhp of power. Torque figures stand at 561Nm. Power figures can be increased to about 408bhp when driving in boost mode.

The Audi e-Tron SUV delivers a range of 400 kilometers over a single charge, and can reach a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour. Expect the e-Tron to be priced at roughly Rs 1.0 crore (ex-showroom, India).

The Porsche Taycan

Porsche recently unveiled the all-electric Taycan during last year, making it the company's first all-electric sports car. The Taycan is based on the company's Mission E Concept, and will feature two permanently-excited excited synchronous electric motors that produce 600bhp of power.

Porsche's all-electric Taycan sports car will offer a range of 500 kilometers because of the high voltage Lithium-ion batteries installed on it. The Taycan is expected to launch between May and July this year.

In addition to the five electric cars that are definitely launching in India this year, Great Wall Motors' ORA R1 all-electric car at the Delhi Auto Expo 2020. The Chinese built all-electric has been dubbed as the world's cheapest electric car.

Priced between 59,800 Yuan and 77,800 Yuan (translating to roughly between Rs 6.0 lakh and Rs 9.0 lakh, plus taxes and registration of course), the ORA R1 features a 35kW motor, and offers a range of 351 kilometers over a full charge.

Thoughts About The Five Electric Cars Launching In India This Year

Looks like exciting times ahead for the electric auto industry. While we do not expect Audi and Porsche to sell their all-electric cars cheap, we hope that Mahindra and Tata price the cars so that they can compete with cars that feature internal combustion engines. Either way, we're looking forward to seeing these cars launched!
