Tata Nexon EV Deliveries Resumes After Lockdown Relaxations In Select Cities
The Tata Nexon EV deliveries have resumed after the relaxations were announced on the nation-wide lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the country. The delivers of the compact electric-SUV has started in select cities such as Bangalore, Chennai and Ahmedabad.
Tata Motors launched the Nexon electric SUV during January this year in the Indian market. The first batch of the Nexon EV was delivered just before the nation-wide lockdown came into effect. However, the company had to temporarily suspend all its operations due to the ongoing pandemic in the country.
The Nexon EV is offered in two variants, with the base variant priced at Rs 13.99 lakh. While the top-spec variant retails at Rs 15.99 lakh. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom (India). The Tata Nexon EV, when launched, became the cheapest electric-SUV sold in the Indian market.
The Nexon EV is powered by a 95kW electric motor, paired to a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The electric powertrain produces 129bhp and 245Nm of peak torque with power sent to the front wheels. The electric SUV features a claimed driving range of 312km on a single charge. This can be slightly less with the actual usage depending on several factors, and is expected to be rated between 250 - 300km. Here is our detailed review of the Tata Nexon EV.
Tata Motors is also offering the Nexon EV buyers a complimentary home charging station installed at their residence. The company will also help the EV buyers by installing fast-charging stations in major cities for additional convenience as well.
The charge times for Nexon EV via a home charger are rated between 7 to 8 hours for a complete charge. While charing the SUV through a fast-charger can charge the batteries from 0 to 80% in just 60 mins. The electric SUV also features regenerative braking technology. This charges the batteries while braking resulting in an increased driving range.
The Tata Nexon EV features a host of equipment including keyless entry, a push-button start/stop, fully-automatic climate control, and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
It also features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a reverse park assist with camera, multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, and the brand's connected technology to control the SUV through a smartphone application that includes 35 different commands.
Although the Tata Nexon EV does not have direct rivals, it does compete with other electric cars such as the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona in the Indian market. Both the rivals are priced at a higher price point and offer much more in terms of features and driving range. However, Tata Nexon EV SUV is practical offering decent performance, driving range, features, and is significantly priced lower over its rivals.
Soon the Nexon EV will be joined by the Mahindra KUV100 electric SUV which is expected to be launched during mid-2021, and is expected to feature a driving range of over 370 kilometres and priced significantly lower than the Nexon EV.
In related news, the company has also confirmed that they will look to improve the range and performance of the Nexon EV with future updates. The brand's Ziptron technology featured on the Nexon EV will be improved to offer better range, performance, and efficiency.
The brand's Ziptron technology will also spawn more electric vehicles in the company's portfolio. This includes the upcoming Tata Altroz EV that was showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, and the Tata HBX mini SUV. Though, the battery capacity, power output and range might be different as compared to the Nexon EV — here are more details.

Tata Motors have resumed their operations after the nation-wide lockdown was partially lifted.
