Tata Gravitas Spotted Testing Again Ahead Of Its India Launch: Spy Pics & Other Details
Tata Motors will be launching a new full-size three-row SUV in India called the Gravitas. The soon-to-be-launched SUV was first showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo and was expected to arrive sometime in August.
However, owing to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the launch timelines have been delayed. The Gravitas has been spotted at several times testing on Indian roads. Latest spy image from Autowheelsindia, reveals a completely camouflaged mule being testing near Lake House, Pune.
The Gravitas is essentially an extended version of the Harrier SUV. However, there are some changes between both the models. On the outside, the extended SUV will no longer have a swopping roofline as seen in the standard model.
The change in rear design could have been done to accommodate more headroom for the third-row passengers. Additionally, the upcoming SUV is 62mm longer than the standard Harrier. Whether this will translate to more room on the inside remains to be seen.
According to recent reports, the Gravitas could also come equipped with rear disc brake. The company might have upgraded the braking hardware to improve the stopping performance of the large SUV. It is also expected to feature new five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheel design as well.
The Gravitas, however, will borrow most of its design and features from the standard Harrier model. This includes the front fascia of the Harrier with a split-headlamp setup. On the side, it will feature roof-rails and some of the changes made to the D-pillar of the SUV.
The engine and transmission options on the Gravitas will also be borrowed from the Harrier SUV. This includes a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, ‘Kryotec' diesel engine that churns out 168bhp and 350Nm of torque.
It comes mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox, with an optional six-speed automatic. We expect the same powertrain options to be offered on the Gravitas SUV with a slightly higher state of tune to support the extra weight.
Once launched, the Tata Gravitas will rival the Mahindra XUV500 and the recently launched MG Hector Plus in the Indian market. Along with the existing rivals, the segment is likely to get added with few other three-row SUVs from Hyundai, Kia and Jeep in the country.
In related news, The Tata Harrier sales have picked up drastically in recent months. After a disastrous April 2020 for automotive sales due to Covid-19 lockdown, the recent report showcases a decent increase in sales — here are more details.
Thoughts About The Tata Gravitas Spied Ahead Again Ahead Of Launch
The Tata Gravitas will cater to the growing demand for SUVs in the Indian market. The company could improve the hardware on the upcoming SUV over the standard Harrier along with other cosmetic changes and feature upgrades. The Gravitas could be the brand's new flagship model when launched in market later this year.
