Tata Altroz Secures Five-Star Rating At Global NCAP Crash Tests: Check Out The Test Video Here!

Tata Motors has announced the launch of its first premium hatchback, the Altroz in the Indian market on the 22nd of January 2020. Ahead of its launch, the Tata Altroz has secured an impressive five-star rating at the Global NCAP crash tests.

At the Global NCAP crash tests, the Tata Altroz was subjected to both side-impact and front-offset crashes. The premium hatchback managed to score 16.13 out of 17 for adult occupant protection.

In terms of child occupancy, however, the Tata Altroz secured a slightly lower three-star rating. The hatchback scored 29 out of 49 for rear-seat child occupancy. This was mainly due to the ISOFIX anchorages coming unlatched during the tests, resulting in the low scoring.

The Tata Altroz comes with all the safety features as standard. This includes airbags, ABS with EBD, seat-belt reminders, cornering stability control, high-speed warning and others as well.

The Tata Altroz debuts the brand's latest ‘ALFA' architecture, which is lighter than the previous platform. The new ALFA architecture also offers pedestrian protection as standard as well. The Altroz once launched will become the second product from Tata Motors to feature its ‘Impact 2.0' design language, after the Harrier SUV.

The Tata Altroz is the second ‘made-in-India' product to secure five-star ratings at the Global NCAP; first being the Tata Nexon SUV. The Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) is a strict set of crash tests, which assess the safety rating of various new cars sold globally.

The Tata Altroz once launched in India will come powered by two engine options: a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol producing 85bhp and 113Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre diesel unit churning out 90bhp and 200Nm of peak torque. Both engines will be BS6-compliant from the start.

Also, both engines will come mated to a standard five-speed manual gearbox initially. However, Tata Motors is said to be working on introducing an automatic transmission unit on the Altroz in the near future.

Thoughts On The Tata Altroz Crash Test Results At The Global NCAP

The Tata Altroz is the second product manufactured in India to secure a five-star rating, apart from the Nexon. Bookings for the Tata Altroz has already started and the hatchback is expected to come with a starting price of Rs 5 lakh, ex-showroom.

Once launched in India, the Tata Altroz will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and the Toyota Glanza in the premium hatchback segment in the Indian market.
