Skoda Karoq Launch Delayed: Company Reschedules Launch To 6 May

Czech auto manufacturer, Skoda, has announced a delay in a launch of the all-new Skoda Karoq. The company had scheduled a launch this month but have rescheduled the launch for 6 May in light of the current lock down in the country. Skoda has however started accepting bookings for the Karoq SUV for an amount of Rs 50,000.

Slated to be a low volume product, the Skoda Karoq will brought into the country as completely built units. Government rules and regulations dictate that manufacturers can import under 2,500 units a year without the need for homologation.

The Karoq is built on the brand's MQB platform that is featured in many other models including the Octavia, the Kodiaq, and the Tiaguan among others. The company is currently working in a variation of the platform that will allow for the VW Group to launch India-specific vehicles at competitive prices.

The Skoda Karoq will feature a panoramic sunroof, a virtual cockpit digital instrument cluster, full LED headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control system, a 12-way electronically adjustable driver's seat, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, ESC, and nine airbags.

The Skoda Karoq will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 148 brake horsepower and 250Nm of torque. The engine will arrive mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission unit.

The company will launch the Karoq and begin deliveries on 6 May, and once launched, the Karoq will compete with the Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tucson in the Indian markets.

We're not surprised that Skoda decided to reschedule launching the Karoq. The company is making an attempt at resurrecting the brand in the country and we think a ‘physical' launch will hold more value as compared to a ‘digital' one. Having said that, we're unsure about how the vehicle will perform considering the economic crisis that a buyers market is headed towards.
