Skoda Kamiq Mid-Size SUV Spotted Testing Again In India: Spy Pics & Details
The Skoda Kamiq mid-size SUV has been spotted testing again in the Indian market. The SUV is less likely to launch in the Indian market. Instead, the company's engineers are likely to be using the Kamiq to gather data for the development of the upcoming Vision IN SUV in India.
Latest images from Carblogindia, reveals a Skoda Kamiq mule sans camouflage carrying out the latest round of testing in the country. We also noticed a large sticker on the side indicating a petrol-powered vehicle.
The Kamiq uses the popular MQB A0 platform. However, Skoda is working on localizing the same platform to suit Indian customers. It will be called the ‘MQB A0 IN' and will be significantly longer adding more room on the inside that is especially concentrated at the second row.
Although the Kamiq is currently believed to be going across the country for research and development purpose, the company could make use of the new import relaxations rules to bring in a couple of models in limited numbers to the country.
The latest Indian import rules dictate that the companies can import 2,500 vehicles via the CKD and CBU channels per year, without the need for homologation. However, all vehicles imported into the country have to meet International Automotive Standards.
The global-spec model of the Kamiq is offered with four engine options. This includes a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine in two different states of tune. The lower-spec unit produces 94bhp and 175Nm of torque, while the higher-spec engine churns out 114bhp and 200Nm of torque.
The Kamiq is also offered with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol-engine producing 201bhp and 250Nm of torque, and a 1.6-litre diesel engine four-cylinder engine churning out 155bhp and 250Nm of torque.
However, the India-spec Kamiq A.K.A. the Vision IN is expected to be offered in a single 1.5-litre TSI engine that is currently used in both VW T-Roc and the Skoda Karoq SUV in the Indian market. The engine produces 145bhp and 250Nm of torque and comes mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox.
The International-spec Kamiq SUV is loaded with a host of features including full-LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, LED tail lamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, roof rails and more.
On the inside, it features the brand's virtual cockpit system for instrument console and a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple Car Play. The SUV also features the brand's connected technology called the ‘Skoda Connect'. It is also offered with a host of safety features such as ane keep assist, blind-spot detection, ABS with EBD and more.
Thoughts About The Skoda Kamiq Mid-Size SUV Spotted Testing Again In India
Skoda Kamiq is speculated to be here in India for research and development purpose. The company has not revealed the plans for launching the Kamiq in the Indian market. However, most of the features are expected to make its way on the upcoming Vision IN mid-size SUV that will be launching in India at a later date.
