Top-10 Safest Cars In India According To The Global NCAP Rankings: Here Is The Entire List!
Global NCAP has released the list of the safest cars in India. The list includes all cars which have gone on sale in the Indian market in the last six years (2014 - 2020). All cars mentioned in the list have undergone extensive crash tests to determine both safety of adult and child occupants under various conditions.
As per the crash test programmes of the Global NCAP, the Mahindra XUV300 has been adjudged as the safest car in the country. The Mahindra XUV300 secured a five-star rating for adult occupancy and four-stars for child safety. The XUV300 is also said to be the first and only model in the country to achieve a four-star rating for child occupancy, at the time of testing.
The Mahindra XUV300 is one among a number of ‘Made-In-India' car models to receive a high ranking in the Global NCAP's safety rankings. In fact, of the top-10 cars on the list, a majority of them are from homegrown brands.
Following the Mahindra XUV300 is the Tata Altroz in second place. The Tata Altroz is the brand's latest offering to be introduced in India and is positioned as a premium hatchback in the Indian market.
The Tata Altroz came in second place in the Global NCAP tests after securing a five-star rating for adult occupancy and three-stars for child safety. The Tata Altroz, being the brand's latest product comes packed with features and safety equipment and is also based on the company's latest ALFA platform as well.
Third and fourth on the list is the Tata Nexon SUV. The Tata Nexon in the third position is the model produced post-December 2018. This version of the compact-SUV received improved safety ratings as per the Global NCAP tests.
The newer version received a five-star rating for adult occupancy and three-stars for child safety. The older version of the Tata Nexon (fourth on the list) lost out after recording four-star ratings for adult and three-star rating for child occupancy.
Tata Motors updated the compact-SUV recently giving it a much-required facelift. As part of the update, the new Nexon SUV not only received cosmetic changes but also got a host of safety upgrades as well.
The newer version of the Tata Nexon comes better equipped with safety features and equipment. This includes multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, disc brakes, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist and a host of features as standard across most variants.
The top-five on the list is completed by the Tata Tiago/Tigor siblings. Both the Tata Tiago hatchback and the Tigor compact-sedan recently received an update, alongside the Nexon SUV. Both the hatchback and sedan siblings received identical safety ratings in the Global NCAP's safety tests. This includes four-stars for adult occupancy safety and three-stars for child safety.
Here is the entire list of cars tested by Global NCAP over the last six years, along with their safety rankings. The list also includes multiple models which over the years have been discontinued for multiple reasons:
Following the top-five is the Volkswagen Polo hatchback. The entry-level model from the German brand in the Indian market occupies the sixth slot in terms of safety rankings. The Volkswagen Polo has been on sale in the country for a long time and has undergone multiple updates and revisions over the years.
The Volkswagen Polo has received a four-star rating for adult occupancy and three-star rating for child safety. This although similar to the Tata models positioned above, has been positioned lower due to the difference in overall points, post the crash tests.
Following the German hatchback is yet another made-in-India product, the Mahindra Marazzo. The Marazzo MPV was launched in India last year and since then has done fairly well in the Indian market. The Marazzo seven-seater SUV recorded an impressive four-stars in adult occupancy but lost out on child safety after registering just a two-star rating.
The now-discontinued Toyota Etios, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the discontinued Tata Zest complete the top-10 list of India's safest cars over the past six-years. Similar to the Mahindra Marazzo all the cars at the bottom of the top-10 list registered a three-star adult occupancy safety rating and two-stars for child safety.
Thoughts On India's Top-10 Safest Cars As Per The Global NCAP Ratings Over The Last Six-Years
It is extremely impressive to see Mahindra and Tata Motors lead the way in terms of safety, occupying most of the slots in the top-10 list. This just showcases how cars in India have advanced drastically over the last few years, especially in terms of offering safety to customers.
