According to the latest report from Autocar India, the company has decided to launch the new engine option on the Triber in 2021. The company had made this decision as it intended to debut the new powertrain with the launch of Kriger, which is also scheduled to launch in 2021.

The new turbo-petrol engine codenamed HR10 has been jointly developed by Renault & Nissan. Both brands will be using the new engine on its respective compact-SUVs, which will be launching in the Indian market. This includes the Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kriger.

The 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine will be producing 99bhp and a peak torque of 160Nm. Transmission options with the engine include a five-speed manual and a CVT automatic transmission.

The HR10 is derivative of the HR13 turbo-petrol engine that currently powers the Renault Duster and the Nissan Kicks in the Indian market. However, both brands have reduced the cubic capacity of the engine to suit the platform.

Coming back to the Triber, the turbo-petrol is expected to increase the sales of the Triber compact-SUV in the Indian market. It will also provide additional options with engine and transmission options for buyers in the segment.

Renault currently offers the Triber with a single-engine option. The compact-MPV is powered by the 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. It produces a maximum power of 71bhp at 6250rpm and a peak torque of 96Nm at 3500rpm. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox as standard, with an optional AMT on top trims.

The Renault Triber is based on the brand's CMF-A platform that offers a spacious cabin while measuring under four-meters in length. The Renault Triber is 3,990mm long, 1,739mm wide, and 1,643mm tall with a wheelbase measuring at 2,636mm.

Although the turbo-petrol variant will remain largely similar to the standard varaint, we expect the Triber turbo to feature a few cosmetic changes. Other features will be borrowed from the standard model.

Some of the highlighted features of the Renualt Triber include projector headlamps, LED taillamps, roof rails, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and voice recognition. The Triber turbo could be offered with a alloy-wheels, which is missing even on the top-spec varaint of the MPV.
