Renault Plans Launching New Models In India: To Target Rural Markets Across The Country
French auto manufacturer Renault has announced that it plans to launch new models in the country and said it would focus sales in rural areas in order to strengthen its position in the country.
The brand recently announced a launch of AMT trims for its entry level Kwid and Triber models, and said it is in the process of increasing its products portfolio in India.
Mr Venkatram Mamillapalle, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director at Renault India said, "We will soon launch Duster with an all-new turbo engine (petrol), making it the most powerful SUV in its segment."
"True to our product strategy, Renault's new offering will be a disruptor that will cater to the evolving customer expectations, while establishing the expertise of India's design, technical and manufacturing prowess on the global map," he added.
The French automaker said that India is on their key markets and has been on the brand's top 10 global markets on a cumulative sales basis over the last few years.
The brand's Kwid and Triber models continue to perform well in the Indian markets, and the brand says consumer interest in the AMT variants are highly promising.
Renault's mid-to-long term strategy is to expand into rural markets, and the brand has already targeted 330 rural towns in the country. The brand says this is a new area of operations for them.
Mr Mamillapalle said, "This is a new avenue that we are aggressively pursuing with an innovative and comprehensive strategy. We have also initiated a special project - VISTAAR to amplify and grow our presence in rural India and our dealership teams have recruited specialised sales consultants to reach out to rural markets."
Renault's share in India's rural market has grown 25 percent during the months of April, May and June - as compared to the 19 percent during the months of January, February and March this year.
The brand has also announced incentives and has relaxed sales targets because of the Covid-19 pandemic and has been supporting all its dealers across the country with inventory handling expenses, in addition to special programs to help their dealer partners enhance skills.
Renault said they have used the lockdown period to focus on their new strategy for India, and has invested resources and efficiencies towards becoming a major player in the country.
Thoughts About Renault's Plans To Target The Rural Markets In The Country
The rural markets across India are major earners for manufacturers. In fact brands like Mahindra divert considerable resources to tapping these markets. We think Renault will do well as long as they know what they're offering and price products very competitively.
